WOW..... all i have to say i finaly got to ride my drz 400sm. Me and my dad took it on some back roads in Peach Land British Columbia and it was a dream i road it for a couple hours on the black stuff then we found a deactivated logging road and tore it up. it feels like i was on my yz 125 ripping up the trails again except without the powerband. The thing is got loads of power, and great acccellaration across the band and it handles the trails like a dirt bike and from what i could tell a sport bike on the road. I knew the bike was going to be fun to ride but it turned out to be way beter than i could have hoped for  the only complaint is the seat and maybe the vibes and i dont know if its just my clutch work but it seems jurky when im just riding along then i throttle up a bit and theirs almost a delay before the power kicks in, is thier anything you can do about that or is that my clutch work. excusse the newbie questions and the rant it is my first time on the road and my first street bike and its amazing thanks to TT and all the proud DRZ 400 SM owners before for steering me in the right direction and helping me decide what to buy i love my DRZ  :ride:

Now if only i could get some pics up here guess i have to be with photo bucket huh?

the stock carb is known for the delay. Switch to the FCR if you can afford it

Need to know a lot more about your riding technique to know if it is you or the bike. Any 400 4 stroke will jerk if you are applying heavy throttle at too low revs. The DRZ400SM is very smooth for a 400 single so I'm not sure about you complaint about vibrations. Again, you feel the power strokes at heavy throttle and low revs. If the dealy is with the bike, a relatively simple carb kit will improve it greatly. Take a look at the TT store or click on the link for JD Jetting.

What tires are you using on the logging roads? Can you get second set of "dirt" rims?

Sorry for all the questions but I'm seriously considering to sell the crf450x and get the drz400ms.

I want something that will be more reliable with less maintenance. If the 400sm can take dirt tire rims I'm sold.

Thanks KC.

all you need to do it get a set of E/S wheels, youll need a new front rotor unless you feel like swapping out the stock SM rotor everytime you change..they will fit right on and then you have the best of both worlds .another option are more dirt oriented tires that will fit on SM rim. although, Your best bet is to find a used set of S wheels through the classified or ebay.

Yes you need to Photobucket the images. Get the JD Jetting Kit & a Keintech Fuel Screw, do the 3x3 ONLY after the JD Kit has been installed. Have fun riding & BECAREFUL!!!!!!!

just wate till you get some good tires on that thing -- the stock d208s are junk and are only good for doing burnouts

the bike will get better with every little modd you do

even if some of the modds only make 0.5 more HP the motor will love you for it ---- they just choke the hell out of the thing to get past the smog testing

the DRZ 400SM is the best do it all bike I have ever seen --- about the only think that is cant do is ride 2 peapel with larg buts lol
