my Q is to build up an 2006 DRZ SM. that i purchaced as a recked bike. i have the means of making it into a full on dirt bike, conventional forks, rear e model swing arm, 21 and 18" rims, 3.9 clark? tank, all SM yellow plastics. licenced for the street. i want to sell this bike because i got a sceaming deal on an other complete running SM. so, my other part of the Q is the sm parts that i bought for this 06 sm. ie. the whole front forks, rims, tires and so on to complete the SM to riding status is all there.
do i make the dirt bike and sell it for a little less? then sell all the SM parts, rims, forks, swing arm... for what they are worth? or just the oposite, build the SM, and try to pawn off the "E" parts?
after all is done, i will have my SM, black, second set of rims, so on. for me to enjoy till i need help out of bed to go for a ride...
looking to get the most out of what i have... thx.:excuseme:

Build a hybrid using the E engine in the SM frame using the SM suspension and brakes. Keep both sets of wheels and part out the rest.

The only thing more desireable about the E is the engine, carb and exhaust. There's nothing else worth swapping to the SM.

do i still have a chance on making any money on the e stuff? that is the reson i was thinking of selling it as a running bike? and get what i paid for the SM parts. if i was to have a pakage deal on the SM forks, rims, swing arm, brakes, fat bars... could i get close to 2100. for all? then sell the dirt bike for little over 3500? thats about what i have into both?

Don't know exactly what you're doing, but SM parts like rims and such are more valuable and easier to sell then S/E parts. I would keep one as a SM and one as a dirtbike.

i do agree about doing the SM, and that is prob the way it will go, but i'm looking at my options. :)

Do the two SM's have good titles, not salvaged?

If so, it might be good to build a street legal dirt model using the SM frame, E model forks and swingarm.....but I guess depending on what year the E is, you just end up with an S.

On second thought, since you are keeping the dirt wheels for yourself, build an SM, sell it, and part out the E.

Think this through carefully. It is not the bike performance that will get you in the end in Washington. It will be the closures of places to ride off road bikes in the Pacific NorthWest that is numbering the years of usefulness of anything that is not street legal. A solid SM is very desirable, and street legal. A botch job is neither!

thank you all for your support, i'm new to this site, and have read alot of your coments on other issues. i still may change my mind, but. titles are good on the sm, not on the e. i do like the street legal dirt bike idea. i have the time to work on these this winter... i will try to sell the SM parts to someone that is converting an S to a SM this winter, if the parts do not sell, i will decide what to do with all in March. but now i will get the SM bike cleaned up and looking good and last minute decide to S it out or SM. thank you.
i will send pics of what is going on. should i attach them to this Thread or to a new one later?

wow quite confusal.

I have a n S I converted to an SM keeping my 18/21's for full on dirt.

Watching TT for a couple years now, SM's get more than E's and S's. Esp if you dont have the E motor. Guys that ride off road (E owners) do tend to trash parts a little quicker.

I would Part the E stuff and sell the SM's intact. I never thought I would ride 99.99% street when I bought my S. Since I SM'd it I cant believe how much more fun (and safe) it is.

Post your parts on TT classifieds and document your process in this same thread. It will be interesting to see how it goes.

Do you have the carb for the E for sale?

the e carb is the other style, found out later. same one that is on the s and the SM. :( and the only thing good out of it is the set of jets that will be in my new carb soon.
