I found two good deals. An 02 with very little use for 1800 bucks. The other one is an 05 in cherry cond. for 2600 bucks. I'm wondering if there is enough difference in handling to spend the extra money, I'm scraping funds so I would like to spend less money, What do all you guys think?

The 02 is a 426, and the 05 is a 450, the 05 has electric start, and the 02 has manual decompression. On those merits alone I would go for the 05.
The 05 will handle better too IMHO.

Don't mean to hijack, but along the same lines of the original question, I think I remember reading that in '04 or something was the last year for a 5 speed tranny? I'm looking for a WR450 deal myself and would like to know the tranny differences among year models.

All WR's have a 5 spd trans, the 03 to 05 YZ 450 had a 4 spd trans.

I had an 01 and now have a 05. The 01 was a blast, but that button at your right thumb is worth it! Im not sure of the 02 suspension, but the 05 suspension(in stock set up) was waaayyyy better than 01, if you weigh #190 or less.

'05 for sure. The 426 has a high CG, and for me being a tall guy that is a pain sometimes... Just another thought.

The electric start button is a magical thing, and the decompression lever that the 426 comes with is the exact opposite. Get the 05. It's the only way to go.

get the 05 you won't be sorry,i heard on TT that the 02 had tranny issues.

you also have to look at it this way,do you want someone else's old bike that you don't know how it was maintained or do you want a newer bike that you can maintain the way you would treat a bike.:banana:it gets exspensive quick if you have to repair your bike.
