Friend of mine looking at a 02 250exc thumper.....Lots of street experience but almost none in the dirt. Bike is new and a great price. Does anyone have an opinion for this bike as a starter off roader. He says" I'm 42 and I'm not going to take those 70 foot jumps like you!" so mx is out I guess but trail riding is fun too I guess. I have never been around a bike like this and it is 100 miles away. So any opinions are welcomed.

Thats cool. I didnt even know Ktm made a 250F, but then our nearest dealer is 2hrs away. If it turns him on that much and is a killer deal, it should do him for a year or 2. I would have him consider the Yamaha 250F also, I hear read and see it is a great bike! If he is more advanced in the dirt or on the big and heavy side he might need a little more umph! But get him on something good, and take him out riding

He is not totally without skills and a wr250 yamaha is the other option but they seem to be about the same price so the ktm has more quality parts for the money. As a former ktm owner I like their quality. He is truly intimidated by the "hard hitting" bikes i.e. 426 450 or 450. If we do go riding I will have to take it easy on the roost.

Hey Jason.......I believe that KTM 02 250exc thumper would be a great bike for him. Just keep in mind.....does it have the auto-decompression for starting? Nothing worse than pumping away when everybody else is riding. KTM are nice bikes, but the nearest dealer is miles and miles away from me and the parts do cost more than Honda's.
