About what should a shop be charging to shim and adjust valves? Just curious! Thanks,

That is a great question for me too. I just took my bike in for a valve check and am real curious about how much other people are being charged. I haven't even asked him yet.

So, shops are earning about $200 per hour to do this.

If that were the case, that caculates out to only taking the mechanic 30 minutes to re-shim the valves. Is this possible?

Well when the time comes for me to do my bike I will be using www.ericgorr.com

CYLINDER HEAD TUNE-UP $50
This service involves complete and thorough cleaning and inspection of the head and valve train. The valve clearance is checked and the shims are changed where needed. The sealing surfaces are lapped with a diamond wetstone. The whole head is ultrasonicly cleaned.

I have used Eric in the past for my 99 CR and he is a god! He does alot of motors and bikes around here and around the US, just ask around. He is very down to earth and straight about everything.

If you can wait the shipping time he is the way to go, give him a call.

Hoffy, I did it in 45 minutes the first time and I'm no pro mechanic. I'm sure I could do it in 30 minutes assuming I already had the shims I needed. The Honda design with the single overhead cam is really very easy to work on, at least up top as far as I have had to go.
