What should I buy for my 06 YZ540 for better performance?

pretty much stock. Only thing I have on it is exhaust (FMF factory Ti, and powerbomb header). Would like to have more low and top end power but am open to advice for improving the performance in suspension, handling, etc. I am riding only motocross in so cal.

I'd spend most of my time jetting it to perfection and set sag, then dial in the clickers.

I upgraded from an '06 to an '08. After one ride on the '08 I guarantee that the biggest improvement to the '06 would be getting the forks re-valved.

well to adress ur low.. go to a 50t on the rear.

and if u havnt already get ur suspenders revalved for ur weight.. theirs not much u need to do to these bikes.

well, a 450 would, but I'm not sure about a 540.:D :worthy: :ride:

but seriously, a 450 has PLENTY of power. Last friday I was riding my yz450 after several months of not riding it, it gave me quite the workout riding some rather easy trails. One has to grab on tight to that thing, it feels like it could throw me off of it any second if I let my guard down. At the end of the day I rode one of the better trails in a good aggressive way and it just wore me out! My wr450 is a beast in its own way, but the yz just blows me away. To be fair I was riding with the WR's 18" rim and 50 tooth sprocket on the yz, but even with the 19" rim & 49 tooth sprocket it hauls @ss...:ride:

there needs to be a set in stone rule in life that you can always use more power. if your wanting to dig into the engine i would recomind head porting.

Boysen Accelerator pump cover and V Force Reeds, and maybe the Boysen Wing. They will give a lot better throttle response. Maybe even run a low grade race gas.

I don't. Reed valves are used on 2-stroke engines only.

The Boyeson wing and pump cover are a waste of money.

aw shit on me i got them mixed up. (I use to have a YZ125) But i did put the pump cover and wing on my 250f and it greatly reduced the low end bog and gave me a little better response as well. I do run race gas in my bike as well so that could help the case.

A YZ450 does not have the same low end problems that YZ250F's do. The Boyeson stuff won't really help anything.

Yeah well i figured since there still carbureted it would be similar. Ill stick to my '09 450R.
