Ktm 250 sx vs Yamaha yz 250

Recommended Posts

Im buying my next bike soon, and I can't decide on which bike. I'm gonna be doing freeriding, larger gaps, some fmx, no competition stuff. Also some woods, trails, and fire roads, every now and then. Its just gonna be a generally fun motorcycle to have fun with. Let me know what you think.

I would take the KTM hands down. I have an 06 yz250 and my dad has an 08 ktm 250xc. The KTM has a switch to adjust the power, so you can have smooth power or make it hit like the yz. My suspension was messed up when I bought my bike so its horrible but my dads is killer. Magazines try to say ktm suspension isnt as good as the other makes but there on crack! I thinks its as good or better. The ktm also corners better. If I had the money I would go KTM.

If your looking for a new bike I say get the YZ. The suspension is better than a KTM out of the box. The motor is not as powerful and it is not as customizable. The KTM is a tiny bit more advanced too but you get a great bike out of the box for 2-3 grand less than the KTM. Definitely worth it IMO.

i have a 2008 250sx and love it to death. such high end parts on it, super light weight (lighter than the yz), engine just rips. theres just more attention to detail on the ktms. i think suspension is probably better on te yamaha. the back end of the ktm works great IMO, but i dont really like the forks...they did change them for 09 though, so it might be better. the rest of the bike is the same. i say ktm, but im slightly biased...it turns heads too, lol

i would go with the YZ if your going 2 be doing jumps and freestyle, the suspention is a lot better, and i have riden nothing but yamaha in the woods and they handle it great, ktm is just the new big thing right now cus they come with lots of extras, i say if u have the money 2 just buy the yz and put aftermarket parts on it, it will be a better bike

If u buy the KTM ur paying all that extra for the orange color I always liked how KTM's looked but in reality thats all ur paying for, the YZ is an all around better bike sure it doesnt have such fancy fender shapes but its still looks pretty fine and performs much better.....stick with blue.

Like already stated, the ktm and the yz are the same price. Actually the yz is $1 more. I had 2 ktms a 05 sx 125 and then a 07 250sxf, I never liked the forks on them cause I was too light for the bike, but this didnt bother me cause for 300 bucks u can send them out and get them revalved like any smart rider would and they are amazing. I now have an 05 crf450r and I can definitely say the ktm was better. It has much better brakes, hydraulic clutch, and is just put together way better than the jap bikes. The only thing I didnt like about it was it did not like to start when it got really hot but you wont have to worry that on a 2 stroke. Get the ktm, they are the same price and trust me they are way better. I know the 250sx is way lighter and a hell of alot faster than a yz.

r u being serious? i have a yz250 and my dad has a sx 250 and the yz is a lot faster and more radical. the sx has more smooth power that comes on a lot slower, but with the yz the power is right there and it comes on fast. the sx is more solid and 'safe' feeling which is good if your an B or C rider, but if your and A rider the yz power is a lot better because its faster, snappier, and more squirrely. and the suspention is 100times better on yamaha. AND ktms are put togther better than MOST jap bikes but yamaha is pretty much equal with them. (thats why yamaha is the only jap bikes in extream enduros, every now and then theres a honda, but it never finishes)

there must be something wrong with your dads ktm because it will leave a yz 250 in the dust

x2 ?

If you've seen the 2009 250 shootout made recently by DR magazine, pitting the best 4-stroke CRF250R against the YZ250 and 250SX, the test rider was a second faster on the YZ250 than on his own race bike, the CRF250R, and a second slower on the 250SX.

That pretty sums it up how better the YZ is over the KTM.

Yea, but you can also go read the numerous posts saying how much slower the 09 250sx is compared to the 07 and 08. For 09 the yz might be faster, but if you get a 08 250sx you will leave the yz
