Hey guys...i was tightening my chain yesterday and i was examing my sprockets for wear when i noticed there was like 7 or 8 chipped teeth on my rear sprocket...this is kinda scary because ever since i bought my bike from the previous owner i noticed when i would give the bike gas it felt like a weird clanking from the chain...kinda makes me wonder what could of happened all those times i was at the track...anyway im about to order a renthal sprocket kit but i wanted to ask some questions. First how do you guys like renthals sprockets? i heard they are one of the best. Also do you guys reccomend i buy the renthal r1 gold chain or the D.I.D ert gold 2 chain with the set? Lastly im not sure what would look better on my bike...the black rear sprocket with the gold chain or the silver sprocket with the gold chain? Do you guys have any pics of your chain/sprocket setups i can see? Last question is should i go up one on the rear to a 49? i remember reading alot of you guys liked running the 49. Is it a big improvement from the 48? Also it adds more bottom end, so how much would it take away from the top? thanks

I think most guys on here will tell you that renthals are not so good- they wear quickly and so on... I just did chain and sprockets on my yz, did a DID professional o-ring and sunstar sprockets front and rear. I heard the steel sunstars are really tough and last a while. Plus they were pretty cheap.
Good luck!
Good luck!

I hear ironman sprockets are the best..... vortex aren't bad either. I heard that aluminum vs. steel is really not enough of a weight difference to truly feel.

also......ironman has a 1 year warranty on all of their sprockets if that helps.

I run Vortex and get good life from my 250 2 stroke, and I hate Renthal, wear really fast.

hmmm...so no body in here likes renthals? lol on motosport.com they have 79 good reviews out of 79...thats why i was gonna buy them. I might have to look at some ironmans but before i do. What is your guys opinions on sunline, tag, moose and primary drive sprockets? thanks

I am happy with my Renthal sprockets. I have not worn out the back yet and it has about 60 hours on it from me. I have a 51 on the rear.
My chain is an RK gold chain. Here is what the combo looks like.

Might I suggest this. The best of both worlds. The chain I selected(DID ERV 3) will last a lot longer than the ERT 2 and is a lot stronger And is a gold chain. This combo kit is a little expensive but you get what you pay for.I've ran this set up on my Son's bike for about 30 hrs with one chain adjustment and no signs of sprocket wear.

If you hold a steel sprocket and aluminim in both hands the weight differance is huge.On a 250 used for moto I think a steel sprocket will be a huge differance. If you ride offroad only or a 450,I would go steel for sure or the twin ring. The x ring(ERV 3 gold) chain is a great chain. The last ERT 2 we had lasted about 50 hrs before I had to tighten it every ride And tightened it a bunch of times before that starting at 20hrs.

I really don't see anything wrong renthal sprocket and the renthal chain kit, I have never had any problems with it...

i run the black renthal sprockets with a did ert2 chain.. DID ert2 is one of the best non o ring chains out there. But the renthal chains are good also as well as rk chains...also i suggest getting a color that is different from the rim color..i have black rims and the black sprocket doesnt really stand out...but my balck sprocket has a one inch silver spot thats even around teh sprocket..usually happens when u ride in very muddy condtions..so that looks pretty cool

Renthal sprockets are good just get an O-ring chain and it will last a long time.
I Use a 50 tooth rear sprocket and that fits me perfect.

DITTO. I run a DID X-Ring chain with Renthal sprockets. I have been running the same set since February racing two classes every weekend and practice once a week. They are just now getting ready for replacement. A quality chain will always make your sprockets last longer.
