07 WR450 Trans Failures?

Just curious how many of you have had tranny problems. I service my bike religously, and the last ride out it would not stay engaged in fifth. I split the cases and found some minor scatches on the #2 shift fork, and on the 5th gear dogs but that is it. I will replace everything, I am just hopeing that this is all of the problem.

I have not had trans problems on my 07wr450.What kind of oil do you use

I'm fairly sure I'm going to have problems soon . I've had mine kind of skip gears. It popped out and back in. it's done that 3 times since new. That's not alot but it about throws you off when it does it at the wrong time. I run the yamalube or elf . semi or full synthetics . My 07 is getting near to 6000 miles now and most of it was om pavement. So I'm counting on having to split my cases soon.

Hmm I had the exact same problem as Timoyz1 with my 02 426. Was hoping Yamaha's gearbox weakness would have been solved by now. Judging by the above pic and also what my shift fork looked like, the shift fork wears, meaning the gears aren't 100 engaged and then they slip out.

It's a bit of a bugger because it's the only chink in an otherwise awesome model - I've since upgraded to an 08 450 and will continue to buy WRs. Won't put me off. Rather this issue than replacing valves all the time (CRFs) or having gearbox and engine oiling continually mixing and cracked pistons (08 KTMS)

Better shots... Strattos hit it on the head. Is this what I have to look foward to every 3800 miles?
I have been making long sustained runs in 5th, but this is a engaging problem, and the slipping out
of gear was happening to me right away the same as tweav. I know in the future, I will try to be
more deffinate in shifting, and will also not run Yamalube anywhere in my garage. So, now that I
am ready to spend money, why isn't the 07 WR450 listed in the OEM TT Store, or Bike Bandit? It
can't be 100% the same as a YZ. I probably can get a better price at the dealer anyway, after they
get an earfull from me.:lame:

I did 11,000ks on my 426 before I lost 5th gear.

Yeah, 100 miles is equal to 160kms, so it's not as bad

Hi are any of you using moblie 1 -15-50wt oil.Many years ago I had problems with my bikes jumping out out of 5 gear wide open (xrs and wrs)I have many bikes was running honda oil and yamaha oil.When I changed to mobile 1 no more problems and I ride more then most people.Still hope my 07wr stays good.

It's still not very good though. I am lucky that it was only 5th, it happened on mile 35 of a 250mile loop. That could have been a nightmare if more gears would have gone.

I have used Yamalube only on my 07, except the 2nd rebuild of my forks when I used Bel Ray. As for the rest of the bikes in the fleet, for the gear box oil, I have used many different brands, as long as it said "for wet clutch". I think this go around I will try Mobile1, it can't do any worse then Yamalube.

Hehe, almost exactly what happened to me. It's a long way back home with 4th gear the highest gear you've got.

Yeah, I'm staying away from Yamalube as well with my new bike. Been using Motul so far.

Hope your gearbox is trouble free from here on in!

Get the part numbers from anywhere, here for instance, and then call TT OEM to order them. :lame:

I've done 8,000km so far mostly road use using Motul 5100 and no trouble so far.

My worst nightmare! Out of the 4 gears ordered, only 1 is available locally:foul: . Three gears are coming from Japan, and is going to take two weeks:mad:. So all of you 07 WR450 owners out there, take care of your transmissions, or you too could be sidelined for "start of the season desert bliss.":cry:

When my wr,s xr,s YEARS ago would down shift by it self.I would be in 5th or 6th gear wide open with high gearing.The bike was already wide open for a min or two.Not ever again with mobile 1 15-50 car oil.Hope my luck stays

I wonder if that might have anything to do with it:thinking: Especially if you are not synchronizing the shift and unloading of the motor correctly. It's so easy to get lazy with that little detail. If so, you would be putting a tremendous amount of stress on the shift forks resulting in what you have.
