I would like to cruise at 70mph for 80-100 miles without fear of damage to the bike.

I have a 48 on the rear now with a stock countershaft.

Any thoughts???

Yes, go up one tooth to 15 on the countershaft sprocket. That will be a major improvement over the 14 and will bring the revs down considerably.
ps consider getting your wheels balanced too. Your butt and forearms will thank you!

This works awesome, I used it to make a final decision on gearing for my Supermotard WR.
