Throttle stop question

Hey guys, spoke with one of my yamaha dealers and he told me the throttle stop or the quarter throttle is merely just a twist and turn throtle shortner.

If you remove it the throttle is just more laid back and not as aggressive / Jerky.

In my mind the throttle stop prevents the slide from opening all the way? Am I Correct?

with the stock wr throttle stop in the throttle slide will only open 2/3 of the way . just get a yz one to fix it , or cut yours down to the same lenth as a yz one

You are correct. A stock WR is a total slug. By rejetting it and cutting or installing the YZ throttle stop you will go from a slug to a cheetah

install the AIS kit or buy a YZ stop. DO NOT CUT OR REMOVE THE STOP COMPLETELY! your throttle will get stuck in the wide open position and could cause bodily harm.

Wow, I've never heard that one before.

Follow Dube's advice. Buy a YZ throttle stop. The general consensus is if you don't get the WR throttle stop cut correctly, there is a chance the throttle can get stuck at WOT. To be honest, I don't know of anyone this has happened to.

It depends on if you put a pipe on and do all the free mods and/or any other mods......I have a properly jetted 06 if you want to pm me.

I do... he is currently out for the rest of the season after surgery to more than one or two parts of his body All he could say after screaming in pain was, "my throttle was stuck WFO".... turns out his slide was stuck wide open. He had installed the stop that came with the GYTR kit, the same one that many of us, me included, are running. This happened in a very long section of whoops, I was not involved in the forensics of dismantling the carb but word is the the throttle cable pulley over rotated:excuseme:

Its easy to verify the throttle gets turned too far by looking at the slide and working the grip when the carb is out of the bike...I noticed it in 06 when I had my first 06.....oh yah......that might be tough to do on hard to access carbs. Thats why I went back to the stock one and cut it a little longer than the YZ stop.....the slide is still fully open at WFO but not over rotated. Whoever spec'd out the GYTR and/or YZ stop in the first place should be hung. I'm not sure if this is just GYTR or not.

I knew someone would step up and share their knowledge. And this stop was from a GYTR kit too. Hmm..

This is an isolated case as far as I know... I have been running the GYTR stop for 2 years and trust me, I am WFO often and have never experienced an issue:excuseme:

I was only confirming the effects of what was perhaps a stop that might have been too short or perhaps installed incorrectly and that yes, the consequences would be a bike that was going too fast for it's own good:busted:
