How do you guys prepare for a ride in the rain/mud?

I went on a ride yesterday in rain and mud.

I hadn't expected the weather to be so bad so my preparation was limited to:

Bike:

Spray the whole bike in WD40 (ok .... to help when cleaning it later)

Fitted extension mud-flaps to front and rear. (great)

Me:

Took a light "spray jacket" (useless)

Took a pair of work safety glasses to wear when my goggles started fogging. (brilliant)

What do you guys do when preparing for a really wet ride?

No mate, I was considering going but heard how crowded it gets these days so i canned the idea.

We went for a run out the back of Nowra. Had a ball in the pouring rain!

Here in Vancouver Canada we say "how do you guys prepare for a ride in the sun?!!" Really, the biggest deal is visibility. The bikes are fine. Keeping the goggles clear is tough. I always have a set of clear glasses in my pack to switch up and some cloth diapers to wipe them down.

I was up at Zig Zag the week before. It was the wettest ride I have ever been on and goggles quickly became useless. Rain wasn't so much the issue as it seemed to calm down a fair bit, however putting the foot out on the corners would result in a tidalwave of water going straight down the boot.

A touch cold at the end but awesome fun none the less

Hello Greg, for riding over here in 'blighty' where it rain's even when there's no clouds, I use a lid that has a visor, a bit like those BMW touring lids that cost more than a fortune. You can ride with the visor lifted up by 10 or 20mm, which stops all fogging and can be wiped clean without having to stop. For outer clothing, it's Sinisalo, jean's, jacket and gloves. I use either some ex-army over-socks for summer (still wet), and seal skinz for a bit of heat in winter.

Waxing the googles glass on the outside with Sonax hard wax will make them last way longer.

Heavy dual sport jacket and heavy enduro pants will keep you dry from the outside but my result is I get wet from the inside instead.......sweatting

Wool is key, wool socks, t-shirt and long johns, that way WHEN you get wet you do not feel it as much.

Silicon spray on all the bike except handle bars and seat after washing will make so much easier to wash and the mud will not get as stuck to the bike while riding.

i throw on a rain jacket and rain pants . hasn't failed me yet . i never use goggles i always use my safety glasses from work .
