well the bike is not completely ready to start yet because we ran in to a few more problems, like bolts not going in and cooling system parts cracking.

One problem after another, but the valves are in check now thanks to some new smaller shims. perfect clearance. I'll let you know if it ever gets running.

I am really not happy about spending another entire day of my vacation chasing this bike around. we'll see what happens.

What all have you tried so far?

Your '06 carb should go on, but won't necessarily be jetted correctly. It would run though, and would send you in the right direction if nothing else.

How far did you get with the old carb? Did you just dig in to the jets, or did you get in to the slide? What about the A/P, does it work?

I stripped the carb completely down, except deep into that part that you showed on your thread where I had to split the float bowl from the main part. You said that there is no replacement to that gasket so I did not do it you. Other than that the A/P works fine. I want to take the carb off my 450 first. I don't plan on stripping the two bikes down until after this snow storm we are expecting.

sorry to keep you in suspense, but as long as I know that I can use my 2006 carb

Go ahead and take that last part off if it's that far along, the gasket will stay intact. Be careful though, you're not removing the top of the float bowl from the main body, you remove the part that's in the middle of the air horn and the bolts are inside the top of the float bowl. If that is the problem, but you cant fix it, then at least you'll know you need to replace the carb. If it is clogged by the gasket, another guy was able to cut off the clogged part and it worked.

Go ahead and put your '06 on, it will mount up. You'll have to plug the vacuum port for the old hotstart. You might like it better and you could start looking for an '00 and later FCR-MX to replace your old FCR.

may be the hot start is leaking. Never thought of that. well im going to try the 2006

You'll need to transfer the 06 cables along as well. The only "issue" you will have is that the boot from the airbox will have to be stretched forward onto the carb bell and held in place under tension while you tighten the clamp. This is 'cause the 03+ carbs are a little shorter bell to bell than your 99 carb.

I'm running an 05 carb on one of my 99 WR400s.

Dude good call. sorry myoung I don't know what waffle means but I'm sure it has somethin' to do with my laziness gettin' this bike going. speaking of laziness, jjj109 did you ever get that WR going?

When it gets rippin' i will surely let you know.

I just picked up the fuel injected honda, I am having trouble thinking of anything but hookin' that bad boy up to a lap top and adjusting performance on a graph.

i don't think so jjj109. We put the carb on the bike that my friend got. The carb is not an 06 yz carb, and the cables don't reach, but the bike freakin' runs.

the yz 400 runs, the old carb is trash, but I don't know what cables to put on the carb. I am not sure what bike it is off of.

I can tell you one thing. we had the cables from the 400 on the new carb and they did not reach cause the throttle wheel was bigger. I had the cables rigged on there and they were holding the throttle open about 1/4. The bike would not fully kick over and I could not start it. we could not get the bike to kick through until we disconnected the cables and cleared out the cylinder by taking the spark plug out.

with no cables bike started first kick without the gas tank and idled perfect. we blocked off the old hot start. now we just have to hook up the new hot start with an updated clutch perch w/hotstart lever, and get the right cables. which I hope will not be a headache.

the bike runs thanks. different carbs fit, but don't be fooled, you gotta match up some stuff

Im sure that would make it run goofy. all I can say about them carbs is if they get old and have this running problem save a couple bucks and get a replacement. Edlebrock has a cool aftermarket one that fits a variety of bikes. not sure how it works but I bet it is good for under $400. That is good only if the bike is worth spending that kind of money on. in my case, the bike was original and not too many hours from a senior rider.
