Dr.D exhaust and radiator lowering kit

Recommended Posts

Looking to upgrade my exhaust on my stock 08' YZ450F. The Dr.D Ti exhaust with the radiator lowering kit good choice? Does lowering the radiator really help cornering? The FMF 4.1 w/megabomb another choice? What other mods would you recommend? Thanks for your input.

As far as I know, all current RDR exhausts come with the header that is compatible with the lowering kits. Mine did, and I did not specify that I wanted it.

Other mods: bars that suit you, mounted as far forward as practical, and a good strong chain to replace the one that came with it before it destroys the sprockets. The bike needs nothing else unless you weigh more or less than 170-195.

The FMF factory forward powerbomb (different than the standard powerbomb) also is compatible with the Dr. D radiator lowering kit. I run this with a factory 4.1 silencer on my 450 and actually like it the best of any exhaust I have tested. Along with this set up I have had an MX powerbomb, an SX powerbomb, a megabomb, and a Dr. D system for my 450, and this is what I stuck with. The Dr. D was my second favorite. On my 250F I liked the megabomb the best.

When I ordered mine spring 07 I thought they told me that a different header was needed. They also told me that it would clear my oil filter cover, which is not the case. Good to know that if I ever do decide to try the lowering kit my current header is probably fine.

finally put a Dr D ti ti on my 08. It replaced my FMF powercore slip on. Lots more low and mid over the FMF. Unfortunately the 08 motor has never had any top end/ rev like the 06 and 07 and the Dr D pipe didn't give it any top end. I'm afraid that if I put the Dr D pipe on my 07 I'll never ride my 08 again... . Will order the lowering kit for it this week.

I run a DR.D headpipe and stock 06 muffler on my 08. I have the older style D shaped DR.D and though it runs well it is a little loud, I know the new style exhaust works well and I think is a little more quiet. The 08 really turns a lot better but since I already had the head pipe I put on a lowering kit. I was expecting it to be all bling and no bang but I noticed it on the first corner, it really did help the bike stay down in corners. I also use a stud so you can change the oil filter but use a shouldered lock nut instead.
