i was a bit shocked when i saw this, did i miss something? both those models gained some crazy weight, or did they add a 6th gear or something? 20lbs to both bikes is crazy, maybe they are rated differently now?

2007 Yamaha WR450F 249lbs
2009 Yamaha WR450F 271lbs

they're going off curb weight now (so all fluids, with fuel, ready to ride), the 09 kawi's gained around 20 pounds on there 08 numbers as well for the same reason.

Go look on the Yamaha site. It specifically states: "Wet Weight."

Here in the UK a mag called TBM stated that the 09 had no changes apart from the graphics.

There was a big to do about this onsome of the other forums, it's just a change to reflect what the motorcycle really weighs before we strap our fat buts to them.

Its amazing what our bikes weigh after putting a larger tank, heavy duty tubes, steering damper, brush guards, computers, Gps, and whatever else is under the sun.
After putting on my back pack and Fanny pack, with chest protector, elbow gurads, Kidney belt, I feel like my mom just wrapped me to go out and play in the snow.
I dont look at the weight anymore, I just dont want to get hurt and dont want to break down.

Wet weight is all fluids (fork oil, engine oil, coolant, etc) but no fuel. The mfgs (except KTM) used to publish the "fake" weight of the these bike completely dry - no fluids. If you add all the fluids not counting gas, the WR450 weighs about 265 - 270 lbs. That should be the same for '09. Add fuel at 6 lbs per gallon and your pushing 290. The YZ450 with fluids sans fuel weighs in at right around 230. For reference, a YZ250 2 stroke weighs 217. Now lets gas up and go ride!
