I dont think that material is weldable...Try JB weld.We use to use that in the 80's..

If I had a nickel for every time I heard that :busted:

because the trans oil could leak I would rather have that part welded, there is also a hole near the FW cover as seen in the first pic, I do plan on JB welding that.

Try "Cycle Metrics"
503-292-5510
10410 NW Thompson Rd
Portland, OR 97229

I had an old CR250 case fixed there quite a few years ago. They did a great job. They seem to be good at the odd / custom jobs.

Then I let you in on the "better" way ........

Foil backed duct tape covered with jb weld.

The metal is cast and very hard to weld.... your going to have to empty the cases for it to be welded....

some cases have maginese(sp?) in the aluminum, so be careful. I would take it to a place that does TIG welding

An poorly maintained chain caused the damage. I just happened to be on the bike when all hell broke loose.

Happen to notice the condition of the chain in the first page of this thread?

If not, I'll refresh your memory. It's not as if I don't feel like shit for being the one on the bike when it happened. Maybe a little more grinding of the salt into the wound will help though.

Had a friend with a similar problem. To weld it right you need to completely disassemble the engine down to just the case. Get it super clean and take it to someone that is very good.

JB weld it and never worry about it again.

You could try Franc Lyons of Lyons Technical Machining. He does a lot of sportbike machinig, so he is familiar with the cases. I had him weld up my trx450r case when I failed to keep a close eye on my non o-ring chain stretch. :banghead: :banghead:

He's located in Aloha last I knew of.

His business number is 503/430-5630
