Highway Pegs for the DR650?

Recommended Posts

yes, i use highway pegs attached to the skid plate; they are great for my 6.3 frame and the knees on the hwy; however, the square pegs that fold in are cheap and are loose, so need to drill out and add my own...the bar for the pegs is actually very robust, and took a big hit that bent it, then took a sledge hammer to bend it back only at home...I think I posted a pic for my user name...hope this helps a little

Owner built , using flat bar , some pipe laying around the shop and a ZRX1200R engine mount bolt ( same as the DR but longer by 1 " ) two 1/4 spacers ,

15 minuties prep / welding , spry can , Later added $6.99 from cycle gear fold up hwy pegs to the end / welded their mounting nut to the pipe . Removabe any time in less than two minutes . Testing was a 3400 mile road trip in 8 days on the DR .

They seem to be multiplying.........well I actually turned Rick on to those brackets. The story on how they came into my possession was thru an older friend of mine. The gentleman was/is a hardcore riding enthusiast and talked me into buying a 2000 DR650.........as he'd just bought one and absolutely loved it. He has problems with his knees and back and thought having a place to re-position his feet would help with his knee/back/butt issues. The problem was the rear passenger pegs were too high in the stock location for him to rest his feet on without totally messing up his knees and back. He came up with the drop bracket idea and a local friend of ours did the design/fab work to make them a reality. He couldn't say enough good things about how the drop brackets saved his knees, back and butt after he did his first long dual sport ride with them on. I ended up getting some of them also and can echo his thoughts about the benefit/difference they make.....just easier on the knees and butt in my situation......luckily my back is still good.

The ability to move your feet almost directly backwards and slightly up allows you to rotate your pelvic which changes your butt contact with the seat and takes some of the direct pressure off your butt. On long dual sport rides it does make a difference!! Heck even around town I find Myself putting my feet back there to change my seating stance.

Sooo anyways that's a bunch of ? :bonk: about that. If anyone is interested in purchasing them PM me your personal e-mail/contact info and I'll get you the contact info for the local guy that makes them up.

All this time I thought they were just comfortable and gave my pillion some leg room as an added bonus.

Mine still look better in black:p

Muk

All this time..............do some more ? miles and you'll really start to appreciate!! Yes, I do have to agree that yours do look better in black!! That's on the short list; do the Muk spray-on bedliner material coating to my set!! I'm going to do everything except the folding silver footpeg.

bloody good idea. Yep i've sat on the pillion pegs just with the bike on the sidestand and also when cruising home on occasion and they are way too high. If I was on the back being ridden around i'd feel very sketchy especially in the slow turns.

PM sent

ZRX1200R engine mount bolt ( same as the DR but longer by 1 " ) two 1/4 spacers ,

I am looking for an engine mount bolt that is longer than the stock one on the dr. So, the one from a ZRX1200R is longer.

The reason I want a longer bolt is I installed the Turbo City skid plate that has side case protection. It utilizes the bolt and doesn't give you much thread left to attach the nut too. I'm assuming any year Kaw will have the engine mount bolt about an inch longer.

That would be so nice to give me peace of mind. I'm sure other people who have bought the turbo city skid plate would be interested in this.....

THANKS FOR YOUR POST................

Cheeseburger,

Here's what I came up with on my 95 DR.

Square stock, old pegs lying around, a little drilling & welding...wa-lah!

Simple & cheep, but very effective on the old hip joint!

Wow, super nice! You ought to be selling those (for real). Are the pegs spring-loaded?
