This ride will start at FS rd 70. Travel the Naches 4 x 4 trail to 941. From 941 we will go up 943 A to 1388 and over to Manashtash. From Manashtash we will drop down to Whistlein Jacks for lunch and gas then take the road back to the staging area. The ride to Whistlein Jacks is around 45 miles of single track and 15 of 4 x 4 trail and forest service roads. The ride back on the hiway takes about 1 hour. You will need to be plated and carry the tools necessary to take your wheels off in case of a flat. We are meeting at the Enumclaw Safeway at 6am. This is one of my favorite rides and I hope that lots of riders can join me. Let me know if you are interested.

Sounds like a cool ride. I live in Enumclaw and just purchased an 06 DR650SE and hope to make one of these rides in the future.

I'm new to the single track stuff. This ride suitable to a beginner with a KLR250? I don't want to hold anyone up.

What do you consider a beginner?

I've done logging roads and some easy trails. I'm bored with that. I've never done single track.

I'm not worried that I can't do it, just may be slow. None of my friends ride off-road, so I have no one to show me the ropes. If you don't want me to slow you down just say so, you won't hurt my feelings. But if you don't care I'd come along.

Jason N, The trails aren't that bad, you just have to pay attention to what you are doing. I have done the Naches trail (4x4 trail) into Little Naches several times, and watch out for those mud holes on the Naches Trail if there are any. Oh Yeah, one more thing, if Pard goes, don't follow him:p

For Jason, it is a beautiful ride. Just did it a few weeks ago. I would be on this ride but I managed to break a foot getting it caught between the peg and a tree root sticking out of a hill side, but I digress.

Just a couple of thoughts if you are in question about your skills. Almost every ride is capable for a new rider with a couple caveats. It is a great idea to understand the skill level and expectations of the folks you ride with. A new rider can be very successful if they listen to good advice from more experienced riders, but you have to have the confidence/balance/clutch down pat on your ride to carry out some of the maneuvers.

I am recently returning to dirt after 15 years. So a relatively new rider. I am very fortunate to have a couple of very good riders as friends that I trust without question. They are great for advice. Their advice got me through every hard part there including a rock climb to some spot called Ravens Roost(?), brutal climb. I was left with (after my foot heals enough to get my boot back on) with a few things I am going to work on. Unloading the front and rear wheels as needed, clutch not throttle. Balance, riding on 2x4s laid flat without watching my front wheel and tight figure eights slow and fast. Everything should be done comfortably standing on the pegs. When in doubt, twist the grip instead of hitting the brakes.

I can’t wait to get back up there and practice what I learned last time. That is awesome scenery and terrain.

Sorry for the hijack.

Jason
In fairnes to you. I would advise to spend some time at Belfair / Tahuya to build your skill and conditioning before you join us on this long of ride. It is not that you are not capable, but 50 + miles of offroad riding when you are not ready would most likely be a miserable experience for you.

I'll call you tomorrow...I'm off to bed. I'll be at Reiter this Friday AM and Saturday AM and I spent all morning there today! Even though I'm addicted to Reiter, I need a change. Russ, when are you coming to Reiter?!?! John, you can't miss this ride!

The more Husqvarna's, the better!!! It is going to be a great ride as I'm looking for something to change the pace from Reiter.
