Me and a buddy, DRZ 400S and KTM EXC450, are going to try the Mt Hood Forest 4610 road from Promontory Park to Timothy Lake Sunday 7/20. Anyone completed that yet this year? I thought I saw a post of a snow free High Rocks near Timothy Lake?
We'll be trailering bikes to Estacada,......any ideas of a good place to leave the truck and trailer in/around Estacada? Maybe just downtown Estacada....
or start of 4610 Rd but hate to leave it for the low lifes......
If we get through, perhaps a continuation on to explore a proposed area for OHV development at "Peavine", south of Timothy Lake. Then back the Clackamas River Rd.

This is late, but I had talked to others about this. One friend suggested the safeway parking lot in Estacada, even street parking. I intend to do the same thing and contact NW scout as he lives near by.

Hey guys.
Let us know how the ride goes:thumbsup:
Here is my ride report from a few weeks ago.

I hit snow at the top of High Rocks, but dident try to head back on the 4610 as I was solo and it was getting late.
There may be a few snowey spots in the dark places but hopefully you can make it through:applause: :applause: :applause:
I hope you make it to the Pevine area. That was next on my list to explore, so I would like to hear how it is.

Talked to buddy that tried on some quads and hit some big snow drifts past Squaw Lakes on July 4th. Also, there is no Safeway in Estacada. A good and safe staging area would be in the lot directly across Estacada Motorsports. While you're there, stop and see Steve who owns/operates the shop. He's good people.

This road IS still closed due to large snow drifts across road not far passed the Squaw Lakes (?) area, as previously mentioned.

Got passed 1 or 2 drifts, then ran into one that we couldn't see the end of, so.......we retreated and saved it for another day.

First ride to the top of Squaw Mt. What a fun climb that is!!! Perfect dual sport road!!!......... and the view ain't bad when you get to the top.

Got a few pictures but I'm "picture posting challenged".

We got back to the truck and went home early......

Oh well, there'll be other days.

Bummer!

Great road going up to Squaw MT though. Its a rocky mother but fun.
Did you hit Huxley lake trail? There are some fun roads and a few other trails over in that area.
When I ride that area, I trailer my Husky to town and park in front of the subway, get something for lunch later, and head out from there.
Let me know next time you guys go, I will try took hook up with you.

That sounds good, would love to meet up with you.

We were focused on getting across the top to High Rocks and Timothy so we did no exploring off the 4610 road, though it looks like some alternatives exist. I have the National Forest map and a "proposed trail map" of that area.

Is Huxley lake trail open to OHV? Looks like another hiking trail on the Forest Service map.

We're both new to dual sporting, have both ridden off road only for years. Having a blast so far. Seems illegal doesn't it, pulling out onto a city street or highway with a dirt bike.......then being able to climb something like Sqaw Mt road with the same scoot.

Have you ever ridden the Barlow Rd from Hwy 35? Someone said that was pretty fun too.

That's the beauty of it huh? Love it.

I have, nothing technical or challenging but cool scenery and cool signs with history. One area had a hill with covered wagon ruts still there and marks on trees where they block and tackled the wagons up the hill. Cool historical stuff.
