Fluidyne Radiators - What Radiator Guards Will Fit?

Recommended Posts

Anyone have experience using an aftermarket radiator guard with the fluidyne radiators? I just bought the radiators and need to figure out what guards to get. This is an 01 YZ426F but I'd appreciate feedback from any 2000+ 426 and 03-05 YZ450F owners. The fluidyne radiators fit 2000 YZ426 - 2005 YZ450. Devol, Unibiker, Flatland Racing or some other brand even. Thanks.

Partially have answered my own question. I called Devol, Flatland, and Unibiker today and flatland gave me a "maybe, not really sure never tried" and the other 2 gave me a definate "NO, they won't fit." Unibiker told me at one time he was making them in a modified version to fit the fluidynes but right now he can't keep up with the demand of the regular applications, so no guards that will work available at this time.

Anyone have experience making one of those brands work by modding it??? Still open to another company too just want something to protect these brand new $450 beauties!

Any and all info or suggestions greatly appreciated.

i've got the pwr rads on my 05 yz and used the unabiker gaurds, but they needed a bit of modding.....i believe any brand will require modding with oversize rads;nothing that can't be done though:thumbsup:

The 05 should be at least fairly close I'd think (fluidynes fit 2000-2005). Unibiker assures me they aren't going to fit on the 426 and I asked him if he thought I could mod them a little to make them fit maybe, and he said pretty much "it's not going to happen." He was telling me the spots where it interfered and said he had to make them specific for the fluidynes on that bike. Said he "used to" make those regularly for guys. Not to say it CAN'T be done, just didn't sound like it was a simple workaround thing.

To complicate things even further I am planning on switching to the 03-05 YZ plastics/tank/seat/subframe possibly w/ a 3.5 gallon or some other baja type tank! I'm thinking I'll probably just email unibiker begging to have some custom made since he's already got the patterns for exactly this he said. Perhaps if I agree to buy 2 sets (backup is always nice) or a couple sets for my other bikes at the same time, and no time constraints I can talk him into it ? Worth a shot I suppose! Thanks for the input though at least I got a reply!!

i use them with a 2.8 tank...ya i never said it was easy and alot of material was removed, but where there's a will there's a way:thumbsup: i might mention i only used the unabikers because thats what i had and not because they fit well when paired up with the oversized rads.
