After installing a 39t sprocket I can't line up the nut inside the axle to tighten up my axle slider on the left side. I didn't realize it until after that I didn't even have to remove it in the first place:bonk: . I've read about the threaded rod mod but does this only apply to 06 and under because how on earth do you get the threaded rod through the axle with the other nuts inside the axle. Any help/suggestions will be greatly appretiated
Eddie!!Please help! 07 axle slider question.

putting on a 39 tooth sprocket on should have no effect on your axel sliders. You should post a picture of what the problem is exactly, I have an 07 sm and used threaded rod through my axle to hold on my sliders with no trouble...

no,it doesn't only apply to '06 and under sm's.the stock slider mounting is really useless and a pita.you need to yank out all that mounting junk inside of the axle and do eddie's sm slider mod.
get yourself a length of 5m x .8 stainless threaded rod and some acorn nuts.cut the rod for the front about 273mm and the rear about 305mm.apply a dab of blue loctite to the end of one rod and screw on an acorn nut, install the slider then push the assembly all the way through the axle with a dab of loctite on the other end.attach the remaining slider and acorn nut.done.do the same for each axle.

Next question is how do you get the mounting hardward out of the axle? Its like the axle was built around the nuts.

use a long screwdriver.
undo only one side of the axel slider and pull from the opposite.
turn the bike on its side.
There are lots of ways to get the mounting hardware out.

you can see in this illustration how the axle design is hollow and the cheesey rubber rubber bushings and nut sleeve just slide in and expand to cinch up.

Bought the threaded rod to change the mounting system but it worked to get everything out of the axle. My confusion was that nothing came out on its own so I didn't know exactly what the mounting system was comprised of. Thanks for the diagram Bumtarder. Wish I would of had that last night.(note to self, buy shop manual) Anyways ten minutes worth of work and shes back to normal. Cheers and thanks!
