Hey everyone, I currently have a 2007 Kawasaki KLX250 and I'm about to trade it for a DRZ400 but I have two options and cannot decide which is a better bet.

Heres option A:

I'm not sure of the year of manufacture. I need to give the owner $800 plus my KLX. I rode this bike and it moves like hell!!Mileage is around 10,000kms.

Heres option B:

From what I researched about this DRZ model this is called a DR400 and it is supposed to be the earlier batch of DRZ's.. I have to give the owner $1000 plus my KLX to get this bike.. Its in really good condition. But I didnt ride it yet..Mileage is around 18000kms.

What are the differences between the two bikes (DR400 vs DRZ400)?

And if you were me, which bike would you choose and why?

For the black bike I'm getting Big Wheels and Tires and A brand new off road acerbis fender for the front.

And heres a picture of my KLX:

Please help me as I'm desperate.. I'm even having a headache..

Much Appreciated,
Jamie

Those front plates seem really dangerous to me.

It looks like they are both DRZ400S models. The first one has SM rims on it.

If the first one comes with both sets of rims, thats worth a lot.

PS - Your bike looks to be in far superior shape and much newer.... the other bikes look pieced together... are you sure its worth 1,000 extra plus the trade.

If you ride on the street, do the S with the sm wheels on it. What kind of mods do both have?

Judging from the pictures, the black one seems to be in better shape. Half the mileage and another set of Rims/tires for less money? Seems like the way to go to me... I vote for the Black Bike.

BTW- Nice looking KLX!

I would confirm both make, model and year of both of those bikes. Blue book'em both against the blue book on yours and go from there...

I agree that they're both DR-Z 400S models. Both bikes have parts from an SM on them. Note the SM headlight shroud on the yellow bike.

Get the black one.

Is the tail light really tied onto the yellow one?!

The black bike looks better, but only you can ride and check the condition of each bike. You should be able to get year of manufacture and model type from the codes stamped on the frame and engine.

I agree the front plate looks like it would decapitate you in a wreck.

Hey guys less than 30 mins ago I went back to the guy who has the Black DRZ and Rode it.. Still is Fast but I went into the condition details.. Well not too good.. The radiator shrouds have been painted! And the dude is denying it.. Well that puts the Black DRZ out of my picture.. And the meter has stopped working so god knows how long ago that stopped..

I knew all the way that they both have parts from the SM Model.. The guy with the Yellow DRZ even said he'll give me the original Front Fender and Original Headlight..

Tommorow I'm off to check the yellow one out.. If I get it Im definitely getting yellow radiator shrouds although the white ones are original..

I'll definitely let you guys know what I decide :D Probably if I dont like the Yellow One either I'll keep my bike..

Thanks alot guys!

what year are they claiming them to be?

the yellow one is a 2000 and the black one is 00-01.

are you certain he painted the shrouds? seems odd to paint & re-install oem graphics.

is the s model available over there in black? or is that an sm model tank?

Just out of curiosity, what was on the black one that allowed you to narrow the year down? [older style front forks?]

its got the old style ACCT so that makes it at least a 02.its got the bolt in the right side of the cylinder head.that stopped after 01 as i remember.may be after 02.

either way,its way older than the body that installed on it.

Thanks Burned, good info to know.

As for the savagekilla, you have a very nice newer bike... I don't think there is any way I'd trade for an older quite possibly clapped out DRZ... especially when your having to throw an extra grand into the mix.
