Speedometer cable

Recommended Posts

I have an 2007 WR450. My speedo cable runs up my right fork tube. It looks like it is a bit to long and hangs out some. Im afraid that its going to get hooked by some brush or something and get ripped off. I tried to flip the clamp around and that did'nt work. Are there any options beside taking it off, or zip tying it to my fork tube?

Bump ttt to see if anyone has had a problem with their speedo cable snagging brush or branches. I didn't even notice it until I let my buddy ride my bike and he pointed it out. Now it looks like it it just wanting to get hooked on something and throw me on my butt.

Get rid of it. Buy a Flatland Racing wheel spacer to fill the void of where you will remove the hub drive off the wheel. Then replace the unit with a cleaner lighter Trail Tech unit. Then buy a single YZF front fork leg plastic and you have a much cleaner lighter setup with a computer that offers more options.

Cheers for this,:moon:

Were would I mount the ignition switch? were can I buy this? have you a picture? does this mount on the handle bars (top of the yokes) would I also then be able to mount the yzf front panel with ease?

Sorry for all the questions!

I will do a complete write up on my new build but I just dont have the time right now. I am currently building a 2009 WR450F for District36 racing. I had to do a lot of research to over come many things that I have found to not be readily available as far as ordering parts and moving things around. I am dropping somewhere around 15lbs off the bike (i am hoping) as I am setting it up to be competitive. I also am making it a plated street legal machine on top off all it (i hope). That is really the main reason I bought the WR over a CRF or YZF. Well and the wide ratio tranny.

Pics below with complete write up with progress and parts list to come.

Well, I dont see how to add photos to these threads. Where is the attach photo button? Can you only do it in Photobucket? I dont have a photobucket account. Can some explain how to attach pics on this site as I dont use very often?

I am looking forward to your write up, as I have mine plated too but want it more yzf spec to cope better on the tracks ect.

I only know the photobucket process,

Its easy and fast to set up an account with them, then you just copy and paste the IMG code (from the picture you've uploaded onto your Photo Bucket account) onto your post.

Lets see if this works.

HEY, we have a winner. Ok, so now that I figured that out (thank you) I will attach photos. I will probably just start a whole new thread. I will attach the link here as soon as I get to it. I am pretty much building most of the this bike this weekend. I have a whole garage of parts ready to go. Again, I will do a full write up with pics.

  • 08 YZ Header
  • FMF 4.1 Muffler
  • Trail Tech Stator
  • Excel Wheels/Hubs
  • HID's
  • GPR Stablizer
  • PC Suspension
  • Guts Tall Seat
  • Skid Plate
  • 14/50 Gearing
  • Hour meeter

The list goes on :moon:

Do you do a lot of desert riding? 14/50 gearing? A lot of my local riding is really tight single track stuff so I went with a the stock front 13t but switched out the rear for a 52t. I figure when I do desert riding (which is not often) I could swap out the front for a 14t. Not being completely familiar yet with wide ratio tranny on the WR, do you think I am on the right thought process on this setup?

Any pics of your bike you can post? Sounds nice.

You can pull the cable up in the headset clamp so it doesn't stick out anymore :moon:

I did this today. Extended the forks completely and I was able to pull about 1 inch of slack up into the headlight area.

It almost looks like I could run the cable between the fork tube and fender and then when the fork compresses the cable slack would go back towards the radiators instead of out to the side.

I might play with it after this trip and see if that is the case or if it is just going to flex inwards toward the tire.
