Bent rear wheel...what to do?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, last night at after the races I noticed that I had a bend or "flat spot" in my wheel. It turns out, that this was caused by a tire wrench from my local bike shop that I had change my tire.? Anywas,Im kinda stuck here becuase I dont know what to do. I didnt notice it until after the race which in total was 12 or so laps. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!?

Does the wheel spin relatively true ?

A small amount of up/down or sideways deflection of the tyre is OK, the sideways can often be lessened by adjusting the spoke tension.

If the wheel spins relatively true, don't worry to much about it. You certainly won't notice it on the track.

man what did they have the hulk change your tires for you..i changed about 500 tires so far in my life and ive never bend the rim useing the tireirons.. ive broke one beed in a tire and pinch a couple tubs but never bent the rim.. i think this might of happend if you cased a jumped.

but if you have a flatspot just take a mallet and pound it out..

Thanks for the replys guys. Well I have tried using the mallet method and it has worked a little bit, but the edge is still bent up/out. This "flat spot" is only on the sprocket side of the wheel. So if I had cased a jump, wouldnt the flat spot be on both sides?? I didnt have a flat tire and I didnt case any jumps during the races. I have just heard from other people now that this was caused by the same shop I took my tire too.?

it could be from the shop but on my bike i have flatspots only on one side of my rim..

take a pair of plyers and try bending in the part that is sticking out. that or just leave it alone and ride:ride:

Bent in toward the center, and out? The shop didn't do it. You did.

Work the dent out with a heavy plastic mallet, then true the wheel.

Its as if someone pride the tire off with something (tire iron). IDK, Im not going to worry about it too much. My wheel just has a slight wobble to it now....Thanks for the response everyone!??
