06 yz450f power help

hey
i have few questions about my new 06 yz450f.
so my first bike was dr 350, great bike with amazing reliability.
second bike was husqvarna 360, the real killer hands down!!

this summer i decided to get a 4 strokes and it had to be a yamaha!.
great handling and what not but the engine is lacking in power.
my buddy 02 crf450 powerband is alot snappier and brutal,but bike handle like crap:blah: .

so my question is how can i make it feel snappier with better throttle response, beacuse excpet that its preety much perfect :thumbsup: .
its like if i dont use the clutch it wont cut it in the deep sand.
is it ok to throw the clutch with throttle wide open?(i know its not) but will it kill the clutch realy fast?

which upgrades do you guys recommend?
my badget is preety tight after droping 6 g on the bike.

what is the best gear ratio for power ?im still on stock gears

Sand is a power robber but the 06 has the power
here are some tips:
gear it to a 50 or 52 rear sprocket
get rid of the stock pipe - DRD/MRD or pipe of choice
Throttle response help - call ZipTy Racing and/or R&D ALJ/bowl
more costly options:
update the clutch with full hinson - your clutch may be worn out
all kind of hop up tricks with cams, carb
call RHC for full blown motor work

First of all, you spent 6K on a three year old bike?


Cheapest thing is to make sure it is jetted correctly. The 06s came poorly jetted from the factory. Correct jetting will add hp instantly.

The second cheapest option would be to add one or two teeth to the rear sprocket.

I hope at least you got a brand new bike. If so, you will want to replace the stock chain with the sprocket.

For under 300$ US you can put on a FMF Ti PowerCore Muffler, it will give you an increase in HP.

Not very much.

From experience, if you are still using the OEM rear tire, that's most of your problem in sand. Both my '06' are great in the sand, but with the OEM 756 on it, I was getting stuck in places my son was having no trouble with at all. Cured the problem by going to a D952, same as his, same as my '03.

As far as the bike being poorly jetted, the only thing I changed was the pilot, from a 42 to a 45. I went to a 170 at the start of this year's desert season, because of the combination of low altitude and cool weather, but dropped back to a 168, and I'm now running the 165 again.

An '06 running right should have plenty of power as is.

i just got it tuned, and ya it will start first kick everytime
i did change the tires.
ill try to get a diffrent sprocket and see how it goes.
the funny part with the chain is that when i start the day its perfect and after an hour of riding it will get to loss.
ill replace it in a couple of rides.
what about throwing the clutch with throttle wide open.
i have maxxis 110 on the back, do you recommnet to go 120?

The stock chain is junk. Get rid of it before it destroys two otherwise usable sprockets.

what you guys think on the 120 insted my 110 rear tire?

It depends. I don't like the 120/90's I've tried. They felt heavy, and didn't add that much traction. The newer 120/80 tires that are being introduced may work better, but it's still important to match the tread design to the soil type where it will be used.
