ask this in the "what bike to buy" forum as you may get biased answers asking in specific make model forums

but to your question i personally think the yamaha has great power all around, i'm comparing to a 2000 CR250 to a 2003 YZ250 (since both are in my garage) i dont know to a kx250 as i've never ridden one, but i think the yz has the stronger motor of the 2 bikes i have, it pulls harder through all gears then the cr.... only thing with the cr is it has a little higher top speed but who really cares about that anyway?

When I went to get a 2nd bike (2 stroke) my friend who rides a 06 RM very quickly (highly modified for the woods) said: "stay away from the RM and go with the YZ". Why? Durability and quality. The YZ is just more solidly built and easier to work on - I went with the YZ and am very pleased with the quality, durability, relability and how everything is easy to work out due to a fansatic mechanical design. KX 250 are rather dated and not at the quaility standards of the YZ. Beside the YZ handleing, supension and especially the motor are a excellent - the RM turns better...

The other thing to consider is the amount of quality information available right here. I'm sorry but the Suzuki 2 stroke section here on TT BLOWS in comparison to this one. Now, the Kawi section is doing quite nicely though too. If you can get your hands on a 2005 or newer KX250 - HOLD on 'cause they pull very hard - everywhere.:busted: Though I've heard the KX is not as tractable as the YZ.

Buy the one with the best price given the condition of the bike but beware that a YZ250 from 02+ will always be a good choice.?

I weigh 215 and recently came back from the dark side. My stock YZ pulls well on the bottom and mid.

Sorry but nothing about the KX is dated, except maybe the motor is almost identical to the YZ250 motor which came out in 1999:bonk: The Perimeter frame is a breeze to work on, tons of room, bike comes with many parts anodized and looks real good. I had an 03 kx250 and have an 07 kx250 and I see almost no difference between them and a yz250. Sorry:excuseme:

Sorry - your right - we just don't see many KX 250's anymore as they were the first of the Jap 250 2 strokes to disappear(???). I got a smoking deal on an 05 YZ 250 (like $4K extra in trick stuff alone) - once the suspension was re-valved it is likely as good as a 2008. I really like the non-perimeter aluminum frame and it is also a breeze to work on...

Ride!

I cannot say anything about green bikes but I can assure you that you won't go wrong with either a blue or red bike. Rest assured that if you get a yellow bike and ever need to deal with Suzuki USA or order parts you will be waiting a while. They have terrible US customer service and the parts turn around time is three to four times as long as Yam or Honda. I have called and dealt with Yamaha USA on weekend nights and they're there to answer my questions and give me the right info the first time, unlike their yellow counterpart. I have restored many older bikes and time and again Yam and Honda are very helpful and have parts on hand. If I was forced to pick one I'd go blue for both durability and reliability. I have an 01 YZ and an 04 CRF.

in my mind both the kx and cr motors need some work on them before they make the same power as a stock yz. Ive ridden 98, 03,05,06 yz's; 95,00,01,02 kx's; and 89, 96, 02 cr's. In my mind yz beats them all. They are extremely reliable bikes like like hondas + they make better power.

LOL- yeah, they dont have 30 threads going on how to setup your cylinder head since they got it right straight from the factory.

I like this ?

"Sorry but nothing about the KX is dated, except maybe the motor is almost identical to the YZ250 motor which came out in 1999"

So Kawasaki copied the 99 motor:worthy:

O.K. I'm not colour blind (maybe I 'am) but the ali frame, Pro-taper bars, SSS forks and the rear suspension definately stands out IMO.

"I see almost no difference between them and a yz250.Sorry"

Nothing personal, everyone has their preferences, put me up against the wall and shoot me.?

Just because you are on a yamaha 2t forum there is no need to keep apologising.?

Any of the 5 bikes are kick-butt, they all have their strengths and weaknesses.

For example: the CR250's are known for having the slowest motor of the bunch, but my 03 has more top-end than my friend's 05 YZ250, while his is stronger in the low-end, and is snappier.

His feels lighter, mine more "solid".

The KTM will be the lightest, and have the strongest motor.

Suzuki turns the best, snappiest motor.

Blah, blah, blah...

so what's the (best) verdict, guys?

if money isn't an issue, it's best to buy all of 'em? ?

wouldn't mind owning an '06 RM250 though... apart from my blue bike
