Will a certain year splined crank fit better or even work period on a 98' YZ400F? I've searched on this but didn't find a definate answer. Thanks.

The splined cranks were from the 426's, which have a larger small end bearing on the connecting rod. You would need to use a 426 piston and have your cylinder bored and replated, or use a 426 cylinder as well.

If I remember correctly there are some posts on here somewhere about using the splined cranks in the older bikes. Do a search and I'm sure you'll find the exact parts list for parts that are required.
