Recommended Posts

I just picked up a full YZ shorty system off an 08 for my new 08 WR I pick up next week, am wondering wether I just run the stock YZ jetting or run the uncorked jetting that comes with the WR kit??? Anyone done this???

Hey guys! I'v done the searches but have not found the answers I;m looking for.

I have looke at a few dyno graphs of after market exhausts vs stock and have only seen about a 1.5hp difference in the midrange. Is this worth the money of a pipe(more low to mid would be a plus) but at +- 1.5ish hp am I even going to notice it.(surely the dyno graphs dont lie)

You'll notice a new exhaust system. The motor is just a little more lively. However, its not worth $600-$800. I have an FMF FActory 4 pipe with a megabomb header. But when I race, I put on the stock pipe with the pmb insert.

It runs strong with the PMB insert, but definitely stronger with the pipe. I always end up leaving the stock pipe on because its quieter. I still blast around the desert, climb all the hills and attack the sandy whoops just the same. Oh, I've got to twist the throttle just a hair more.

Take that same money and buy a steering stabilizer or a rekluse.

I bought a hardly used (3 rides the guy claims) FMF Ti 4 slip on and a Ti powerbomb header. I'm not too crazy about the Titanium because it isn't that durable, but for $150 I couldn't resist. I will test it out soon and let you guys know how it goes. Hopefully it's not too loud, he gave me a quiet core as well so I will be able to use that if it is.

These retail for over $200 I think:

These retail for well over $300:

I got both for $150 SCORE!?

I have the Factory 4 pipe (not titanium) but I do have the titanium megabomb on my 05 wr450.

I want to help clear up any doubts you have about the loudness of that pipe without the quiet core. It is so loud its obnoxious and offensive. Anyone riding to close to you will have the rythym of their heartbeats changed once they feel the sonic pulses from this pipe. It offends me and its my pipe!:ride:

But hey, it sounds "bad ass"

I put the quiet core in mine and repacked it with the special FMF quiet packing and the most I could quiet it down was to a 98.4db, which is still loud, but not as bad. I race in the desert and have to meet 96db so I ended up buying a stock pipe and using the pmb insert so I can race.

I race with the stock pipe and still have the power I need with a slight more twist of the wrist. But when I am not racing, I put the pipe on and the throttle response improves big time. I just take it easy around camp and wait til I'm on the trails top open her up.:bonk:

Also, that titanium megabomb header will get dings in it when its hot. If you can, put some sort of guard on it. Make sure you aren't running too lean cause that will heat up the pipe even more.

what RPM did you blow the 98.4db?

what RPM did you blow the 98.4db?

4500rpm, 20 inches away at about a 45 degree angle, just like it says in the book.

I race desert and I get tested all the time. I have even worked the sound test for a race. Yamaha's are the loudest bikes and the hardest to make quiet.

KTM's and Kawasaki's are surprisingly quiet at the same rpm with the same or similar pipe.

Go figure.

Where in Cali are you? Im in orange county and I usually check OC/LA/IE cl but havent found anything but a powercore 4 with a huge dent in the midpipe hahaha.

I'm in Ventura. Check out the Ventura County part too. I check out the LA/IE/OC stuff too and always see good deals. I was suprised to find a good deal on parts though, usually it's mostly bikes

I have just bought an FMF for my 07 WR450. I was just chasing a nice note but also got different power. I don't know if it has given more power or just moved the power to the lower end. I only took it for a 2 minute blast but could feel something different.

Even if it just for the sound i'd do it:)
