Unidentifiable lever on the right side of my 07 wr450

Recommended Posts

There is this lever, shaped like an upside down/backward "L" on the right side of my bike. Somebody said it was for kicking it. looks like that would put a hole in your boot after awhile.

You'll figure out what it's for when your battery dies.

yeah... that L looking thing, hah?

don't worry about...wait, actually take it off, you don't need it, throw it in the trash. Better yet, just mail it to me.

Then go and ride without it, it will save you some weight. You will be riding faster than ever.

And then when you are out in the sticks, your E button, connector , relay, fuse, starter motor, battery, neutral switch, or clutch safety switch fails you, then call me on the cell phone( I hope you carry one).

Then I will tell you what its for and mail it back to you.

You just have to rub it in, don't ya?

my 426 still start just fine with that "L" thing, and I can rejet/work the needle in 3 minutes or less.

To be honest now that I put the Yz cam in my wr I do use the kicker some times . The bike does not seem to have as much compression while cranking so sometimes it doesn't want to start with the ez button , but 1 quick stab on the kicker and it fires right up . it is also easier to kick with the yz cam. So don't throw out your kicker yet.

^^^^ Funny you say that - HONDA did that exact thing on their CRFxxxF's with Electric start......

Yeessss....suzuki's DRZs don't have it either.

But dealers love to sell the "suzuki branded kick starter kit" to those whom may not trust the e-start alone out in the middle of nowhere.

Better yet, dealership mechanics love to install the optional Kick starter on your bike (as a customer pay $$$) , that Suzuki conveniently left of the bike.

who is laughing at the end?

Now I must admit owning a DRZ for 2 years , I never had any issues E-starting the bike. Also I never had any problem kick starting my 426.

You know it is surprising how many of you are being negative. I didnt see that coming. This was meant to be a joke and alot of you took it way to seriously. There is no need to be insulting. I have had more than my fair share of bikes that I have had to kick myself silly to get started, In fact that is THE reason for the joke, since I bought the wr and found the magic button I am fully prepared to bankrupt my account buying starters, batteries and relay's!

It kind of felt like you rubbing it in for those who have no E-button; such as what is that "L"thing , who needs it?

Myself.... I don't care for E start, it is a dirt bike, leave the luxury at home.

It meant to be kick started. If you have difficulty kick starting the beast such as knee issues than that is cool, but if you are lazy that is an other thing.

Call me old fashioned, but I've been riding dirt bikes since I was 12, Now I am almost 40. I like to have a dirt bike that is light or as light it can be with out the extra clutter. When I go riding, having the luxury of an E start does not excite me. I know others may feel different.

The Wr450s come with electric start , so that is how it is, It would be nice to have the option not to have it. Actually the option is there it is called a YZ, but I am not a motocross rider, just an enthusiastic trail rider.

Here is a picture of a 426 , one of last kind before E-start on a bigbore.

I like to show it to those who may not seen what its like to have a bit of room to work on your bike.
