people what year do you think is the best year for the yz125??? i used to think it was tha 2001, then i got a 2006 and wow but rode a 2008 and even a little better than my 2006. so i would say the 2008 is best yet.
YAMAHA KEEP THE YZ125 GOING.. AWESOME BIKE

next compaired to other brands whos close????
yz first for 125 by far than cr like the 2004, than rm 04, and kx 05

I posted a similar thread about a week ago your not going to believe this but the 98 Yz was the fastest at about 38 hp and good suspension and breaking. The 06 only produced 34 hp it does have the af frame and is 10 pounds lighter and suspension isent that much better. I have had 10 yz 125's all different years the 98 and 99 were amazing get one of those and mod the suspension and your good to go. heres a link Scroll down to the specs. http://www.motorspor...aha/98mc/yz.htm

Dont pay much attention to the factory specs with regards to horsepower. The 98 and 99 yz 125 were great bikes, but never put out anything close to 38 hp in real life.

The new 125 is 10 lbs lighter and has a few more horsepower. In reality it is at 32-33 hp in stock form. The 98-99 would have been closer to 30-31. Even KTM, who makes a monster 125 motor, never cracked 38 in stock form. They were closer to 35-36

125's take a beating. Buy one with few hours. Thats priority 1. I would buy a low hour cr 125 before I bought a thrashed yz 125. With regards to the yz 125, the newer the better.

I have been racing for 16 years i am a pro and race semi factory for North County Yamaha for 10 years. The industry pushes you to buy new always making you assume that the new bikes are the best they don't tell you the mistakes that they made till the next year. My 98 did have 38hp stock i had the cylinder ported and a pro circuit pipe and silencer and it pushed 45 hp. I just bought a 98 with only 10 hours total on the bike it is amazing mush faster than my 06. I like the suspension and the light weight on my 06 but my 98 moter is king. Alot of the factory guys use cylinders from different years to make more power for instance Factory Suzuki used 96 cylinders on there factory 125's till the year 2000 now thats the truth its funny try not to always believe the magazines. Another example a 1992 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX all wheel drive turbo car had a better engine trany and drive train than the 1995-1998's just facts.

point is that the 98-up YZ125 has no equal, none of the other 125's are even close in the all-around package, sure some might make more power or whatever, but the YZ has it all

I would say 06+ just because of the new forks with the speed sensitive dampning but they are all truly awesome

MXA tested both of factory KTMs of Langston and Hughes at the end of 2003 and were told the the bikes make 38-39 HP. I bet few 125s make more power than those two 125s.

I not only want proof of you getting 45hp from a 98 125 with just porting work and a pipe and silencer. I also want proof that your a "Pro" and raced semi-factory.There are way to many statements in your post that just beg to be argued.

I have to agree with you . My 98 YZ 125 was a rocket on wheels, by far the fastest YZ 125 I have ever rode, even compared to the newer ones. Ive raced against so many 125's that had alot of mods & some having been bored. I took them all out with no prob at all & my bike was all stock except pipe & silencer. :ride:

My name is Brian Speer i grew up racing with Ryan Abrigo in Washington i have been with North County Yamaha since 97 I have had alot of injurys so you haven't seen me do to much in the last couple of years i will be at Wahougal National racing my number is 614. I raced at Ponca City Oklahoma 3 times Lyretta Lynn's 4 times, Mamoth MT california 3 times, Moser Vally Texas and lake Whitney 1 time, Minni Olympics in Gainsville Florida 2 times. I have an 8 acre suppercross track that is famous in Snohomish wa many famous pros have been there what else you want. Also my 45 hp is correct but its far from stock now so im not sure what it had before. I do the same modes to all of my 125's and its still faster than my 06.
here is a link to Ryan Abrigo's myspace im on his top friends you can check it out there. I also got a 93 yz that can spank most new bikes i got some pics of that one on the myspace. http://www.myspace.com/abrigo402 Ps im not mad there are alot of posers on forums just want others to know the advantages of the 98.

The 99 YZ125 is the fastest stock 2T 125 made, hands down thats why i bought one, but i was coming from a rm125 that was a pastrana arenacross bike, and hands down the pastrana bike was a TON faster way to SCARY for me, so thats why i sold it and got the YZ i wanted fast but not INSANE!

From 98 - 02 would prob be the best. The 02 has a aluminum sub frame, a 5 speed, and newer plastics(if this matters that much). Handling is supposed to be sick on all of these years though . 2002 is obviously my favorite though :smirk:

The 5 speed tranny blew on the track in the Yz from 02-04 and was a mistake/ design flaw overlooked by Yamaha IMO... the 6 speed is where its at on the 125. 98-01 then 05-current all have the 6 speed tranny and are much more rider friendly. Just my .02
