first running new wr450 2008

hi all,

few days ago i got new wr450, and need some help now)

when ride first time on it , i saw the muffler (silencer, not Exhaust head pipe)

is very very hot!

if it filled the water, fly it from the surface and are not guaranteed to it

is this normal for first times or my bike going very lean?

weather condition are normal +20 C, main jet and needle are stock, no mods yet ( i mean ais, exhaust pipe and etc..)

Here in the states they come jetted pretty lean, it's probably the same way in Russia since it sounds like yours has the ais on it.

There's a great jetting database on one of the stickys at the top of this forum. Depending on your altitude, you may want to go to richer jets.

That silencer will get hot though. I figured that out the first time I grabbed it on a ride!

I didn't know they imported WR's to Russia. I bet there's some great riding over there.

I would not worry too much about it. The muffler will get pretty hot. It melts plastic number plates and other things if it touches. You are trying to say that water spayed on it turns to vapor/steam? I would say its normal.

no, its drop away from muffler, coz it very hot,

- same effects with my WR (

today im gonna get richer main jet and needle,

yesterday i removed end cap and spark arrestor from muffler, engine is "breathing" better, but muffler still too hot.

Hey there,

i live in Winnipeg Mb, i found that my bike was really hot exhaust the first 6-8" of the header was cherry red.

after uncorking the bike and turning the mixture screw out 3 full turns and finishing breaking the machine in. about 500km's on her now

the pipe does not get red anymore... looks fairly normal dirt covered metal now!

Eliminating the lean conditions will likely solve your problems.

I ride a '09 WR 450 and also noticed this issue about muffler getting really hot.

My bike is stock and I have not done any mode to it.

Do you guys think that muffler can get cooler if I uncorck it?

It doesnt get cooler by simply "uncorking" it. The cooling comes

from rejetting the bike and changing the air fuel ratio. The richer

the bike, the cooler. So since the bike is so lean in stock form, the

hotter it will be.

i buy and setup FMF muffler, its a titanium! Stock is too heave and going hot.

fmf is not going hot)
