What # of teeth do you have?

I just rode my new '07 YZ450F this past weekend.? I had a WR250F before and liked the 13/53 gearing it came with for trail riding like I do. I am needing to change the rear 49 that this bike came with( never got out of 3rd gear), but I am not sure the tooth count to use. The parts guy at the dealer said he uses a 50T on his bike. My question is will this be enough to trail ride or should I go to a higher tooth count, because of the different tranny gearing between the WR and the YZ?

I'm running a 50T on my 2006, which has the same gearing I believe, and I like it a lot. Feels like the perfect medium. I think that if you put a 51T you will be shifting a lot more than necessary... but it would definatley feel beastly and torquey! Good luck!

13/48 and I just ride the single track a little faster, I think the stock gearing is good because it doesn't give up a whole lot of top end for the wide open parts.

First off, forget about comparing whatever gearing you had on your WR250 to your YZ450 because the two bikes have exactly **nothing** to do with each other.

If you think that you would like to gear your 450 down a little bit then go ahead and do it but rather than change out the rear sprocket I would go down a tooth on the front. Way less expensive and makes more of a difference.

been hitting the rev limiter in 3rd a bunch lately and 4th is too scary.

would like to get a little more out of 3rd gear.

We went down one on the back to 13/48 for the extra speed in the desert. Hasn't hurt for MX so far. I may try a 14/50 (net 2 teeth down on the stock setup) next.

i did 14/49 for desert for a couple rides. technical SUCKED! scarred out of my mind. you had to keep the rev's up and found myself going to 2nd way to much.

14/52 is the same as what you currently have (within 6%), and 14/51 equates to 13/48.

i have a 14 tooth that i rode 4 times. need to replace the chain and rear. so i figured just get a new chain and a 51 (thanks for the tip) rear and use the 14 i have.

not optimal but gas prices are putting a dent on my bike budget.

I just got rid of my old renthal sprockets which was 14/49

I like my new gearing for woods, but my old gearing was perfect for the tracks maybe a 50T
