Clutch Cable Question

07 450; my clutch cable came off of the motor bracket the other day while riding, I inserted it back in and tightened it up to ride. It held but my question is there is a small retainer that had bent upwards and allowed the cable to come out, I bent this back down but it only covers up half of the opening, is this right or did half of the retainer break off and allowed the cable to slip out of the housing? Thanks!!

There should be two nuts on bolt like are (with threads) at end of the cable. (Part 11 in diagram link below) There should be a nut on each side of the motor bracket. You then use the nuts to adjust the space needed to get a good cable tension.

What page are those parts under?? Like "Engine" or "Steering".....I couldn't find them.

Mine came off too and is now wired on but I would like to buy the stock parts.

After your post, I started to wonder if they changed the cluch cables. It looks like they did. The part can be found under Steeringhandlecable part number 11

This happened once to me too...I don't know what the "nut" on the cable has to do with it though...It's the very end knob of the cable that fit's into the bracket arm, which just has a very weak little metal tab bent down to hold it in...

I haven't done anything to mod it since it only happened one time...Thought it was just a freak incident from feathering the clutch or something...But if this is happening to other people maybe something should be done...

My son's '06 did the same thing (assuming the problem was as goose described). It was the result of there being too much free travel in the clutch.

But you'd think it would stay put anyway. The two easiest ways of securing it that I can think of are to roll some duct tape around the clevis on the arm, so the cable can't lift out of the slot, or to just crimp the slot closed (a little bit on the crude side)

NO, this is exactly what happened to me and Gray is right there was too much slack in the cable. I was just making sure that the little metal tab was all there was from the factory b/c I thought that I might have lost something. I think I'll crimp it down like gray said.
