Which YZ250 Needle N3EJ or N3EW

I am running the W now and it stutters a little comming onto the needle. Everywhere else is great. I also get a little spooge but not a lot. I was wondering if anyone had tried both needles? Does the W make it a little too rich?

Current jetting

Pilot 48
Needle N3EW
Main 172

Mix 45:1 Motul 800

Most of my rides are 3K - 5K elevation.

On the standard engine I liked the N3CJ #1.

The N3EJ is leaner than the W. Try a leaner pilot jet - maybe 45 before a new needle. If no better than it's your needle. :thumbsup:

Great results from a 45 pilot :thumbsup:

Ran both needles on my 05 stk motor, then on the 265.. My baby blue preferred the leaner needle.. But Id try the 45 pilot first, especially since you're riding at altitude..

I have both needles and really prefer the newer N3EW clip #2. As others have mentioned, try a 45 pilot. Also try adjusting the air screw for highest idle.

Its really hard to even notice the difference between those 2 needles. The only difference is the diameter of the straight portion is thicker on the J needle making your bike run a little leaner up to 1/4 throttle. The biggest difference I have ever noticed was switching from 2nd clip position to 1st clip position. The bike ran really good on the 1st clip position, but you will probably get some detonation. I machined my head to the proper squish clearance so detonation is not a big problem for me. But I prefer the N3CJ (1/2 clip position leaner than N3EJ) in clip pos #2. It just feels safer to me. I ride anywhere from 1000'-3000'.

For your elevation I wold run the N3EJ @2nd pos. or the N3CJ needle in the same spot. I also would use the 45 pilot jet and adjust from their, due to your mixture at 45:1 which will require leaner jetting.
