Fremont - April ride - chime in

Recommended Posts

Well, Now I am back......

There was 15 riders that I counted and one was a Quad, CR500R, KX500, YZ450F, Three XR650R's, Five XR650L'x, Two XR600R's and my XR680R. I think that is how it was someone else may have better numbers. Super easy rides, nice weather.....a little windy last night at the camp fire but, not bad at all. The city "L" guy's noticed it but, the real men thought it was just a mild breaze. Just enough to get the dust out of you head light. At the camp fire it was mostly kept to a mild beer every fifteen minutes and most held that well.....There was one that had a shot of tequella per beer and I thought he has going to lean on me as the wind pushed him my way... but, he cuaght himself the three or four times that happened. The KX500 guy got going real well and had some good stories to tell, like 105 through the whoops and rocks and up a small hill on a XL600!?

I kept a lot of the none whoop riding to a one handed afair. The whoops were small with some up to two feet deep and just a little over a bike length apart. They were in bunhes of two to five with a set of ten every now and then. We got the bike wide open on the dry lake beds and I reached somewhere over 102. Cut Thumpage off on the way back but, he saw it coming and we ovoided a serious crash. He was the only one without a head light on that ride so, we had to get back to camp before dark.

My wife made some killer, sweet corn and baked potato's for everyone and they had beer with them at about 11pm Friday night. Most did not eat till 11pm because they had to get there beer quota in before they were allowed to eat. I had two grilled bacon wrapped filet-mignon, four ears of sweet corn and two baked potato's:thumbsup: I was way past ready to eat when I got back from the late Friday ride. I had not eatten sense 7am in the morning.

Everyone was more then helpfull with whatever was going on....six guys jumped up to help me unload my bike when I got there and loaded my bike when I was ready to leave. One guy needed air in his tire and it was filled on the spot, everyone had tools in there packs and was ready to help if anyone on the trail needed it. I got a nail in my truck tire and it got plugged in camp. Fire wood, chairs, beer, BBQ, BEER, Lanterns, beer, water, beer, tools, beer, good talk, beer, tequella, beer, and some beer. I had no beer but, I ate a lot of food.

Three of the guys that came Saturday rode on there own, and we would meat up at camp but, the other twelve rode together. There were three guys named Rich, maybe more. One guy was running around with his shirt off but, no nude Denn. No shooting while I was there. No, cats but, one young girl did get real close to camp. I thought she was a gonner, 17~19 thin, good looking and wearing little top but, I think she knew not to get any closer then the 200' she was at when she was trying to get her dogs back from the guys in our camp. There were F-16 jets flying close to the ground. Some on Friday broke the sound barrier. It was fun and I am sure there are many stories from the others that will be told when they get back.

As far as bikes go I did hear some say that there next bike was going to be a XR650R........ I saw some XR650L's that had cam's, with FCR41 carbs that were ripping along real well. Most of the "L" guys did not have starbucks in their bike cup holders.....but, most did have Bud Lite.

You just had to go and rub it in didn't you. Just kidding. Man, that sounds like a blast.

We're going to have to have our own little XR rally here out east. The only problem is there is a shortage of the vast expanses of land to ride.

Sounds like you guys had a good time though...I can't wait to hear some of the other stories.

Sigh.....I'll have to wait until the next one. My shoulder still hurts and just for good measure, I (accidentally) sliced my thumb open with a utility knife yesterday. Although if I had gone with ya'll, I guess I wouldn't have been screwing with the knife and wouldn't have cut myself. Divine retribution, perhaps?

Should have come out if only for a day. Rides were easy and everyone had a good time nomatter how they rode. Cutting yourself because you didn't go does help you feel better. Cutting is a bad form of self distruction and you need professional help!

I'm back. Awesome event with an awesome group of dudes. What an instant brotherhood it was.

Agent2 guided me in as I was getting into the area at about midnight thurs night,.. a big thanks! ? Martinfan had beers ready for me to catch up on as I rolled in from my long drive.

So much to tell & stories are on the way as guys get back.

Pics will be coming in from SploogeMonkey and maybe a couple others including myself. The pic I am really waiting to see is most of the group holding up and gathering around a huge American Flag at camp.

I will be posting a couple vids of the 650Ls and my 650R taking flat out runs across cuddeback dry lake for fun. I have one of Denn10 taking a run on my bike, passing by me wide open at arms distance, :ride: :ride: ?

I also caught a rare sight on video, of a battle between two tortoises out in the desert. Denn10, Martinfan & I stumbled upon these two desert warriors on a trail when heading back to camp. It would have taken an organized battle by National Geographic or Animal Planet to show the chance meeting. This will show the real mckoy as it really happened naturally.

The above & more to come........

I'm soooooo tired. I got home last night, went inside for some food a shower and it was straight to bed. Slept for over 10 hours and I still can't hardly keep my eyes open.

Got a few good longer rides in. One with Tatooart and my friend Jim of about 60 miles Saturday night and a 70 miler on Sunday. About 200 to 220 miles total based on the 7 gallons of gas that I burned.

Didn't get back from the night ride until midnight. We didn't have enough time to make dinner before the ride, so we were grilling steaks until 12:20. Then it was time for a few beers around the campfire. No sleep till 2 or 2:30. This led to several cups of strong coffee in the morning.

Landscape buddy of mine says he's been using a new EMO grass-it cuts itself.

Sound like you guys had some fun.

I made it back, for those of you who left Sunday - good call, nothing but wind all night, got one more 25 mile loop this morning and called it a day.

It figures that I would get my annual whacked back attack right before the trip. I wasen't too happy about that and if I came across as grumpy to anyone, I apoligize.

I was talking to Splooge just before he left and he said to me "all these guys show up and not one knucklehead". I couldn't agree more, every one who was there was cool. A real "me casa es su casa" attitude among everyone, you all deserve a high five.

Glad everyone made it back safe, and post those photos, I want to see lots of pictures.

P.S. - I got a strange phone message from MartinFan Sunday night, not too sure what was going on but lets just say that Junior and Senior were having a pretty good time in Ridgecrest or where ever they were.....

Of course I told Agent that everyone was cool.

I mean, look at what Agent was packing. Would you say anything to upset him?

All kidding aside though, that is what I said. Everyone who showed up was a class act.

I'm in the process of unpacking right now, but I'll be posting some pics later tonight.

Bruce, thanks for starting this one!?

It truly was an amazing experience for us this last weekend:worthy: I want to thank ALL of you guys for coming out. Made some great new friends:cheers:

Bruce and Rich let me try out the 650R's they ride. If you are an L guy, and are "curious" DONT RIDE ONE! An amazing beast they are. I think I will setup my suspension better, and install a 675 kit to see if I can keep up next time!

I did eat it once, we were in a whooped out section with deep sand. My forks bottomed out, and next thing I knew I was spitting out sand and pulling my L back up:lol: Not bad though.

The rides next time will be put on a schedule, so there is not as much down time. If you arent there for it, there will be a ride later in the day.

Like stated earlier, there were zero boneheads out there(except for a certain Canadien:smirk:)J/K. Every one was VERY helpfull to each other and that was nice to see.

The phone call to Rick is very faint in my mind. Pops was springing for tequila shots and dont remember much!

Once again, thanks to all that attended!?

Rich.

When we stopped after the big sand road at the giant yucca tree at the split in the road, your Pop's went off and hit me! No joke, not hard but, he said, I had to stop riding with one hand! It was super funny and he cought me off guard. We had a small chat there and it really made my day. It's nice when there is a merry spirit in the air and easy to talk between new riders.
