I just got my 2008 wr450f a couple months ago. I am going to be doing some stuff to it and my main question is what pipe to get for it. I was loooking at the fmf sull system and the dr.d system. Also i was wandering if the yz450f model's pipes would fit on my wr. Please help me out!

A full yz450f exhaust from 06-08 yz's will fit just fine. I'm using a stock 06 yz exhaust on my 07 wr. I also have the Dr.D system, on an 08 yz450f, I'd definitely recommend that exhaust. Just don't use a "slip-on" designed for a yz, the header has a different diameter than the wr's. Enjoy your bike and hang on!! Don't forget to do ALL the free/easy mods.

I just got my 08 wr450f coming down from a kx500 and absolutely love it. I did all the free mods along with the GYTR AIS removal. It feels great to me. Think I will wait a bit to get an aftermarket pipe. Just don't see the need just yet, though I have heard good things about the FMF 4.1.

I have spent a bit of time YZ-fying my '07 WR. Send PM if you want more details but the "short" version is...

-Remove all lights
-07 YZ front plate from UFO
-Move power switch w/ LED (not starter button) to a cutout under the handlebar mount pad. Cut the foam to hold it and the placed a small hole in the pad cover.
-07 YZ front brake hose
-Front axle spacer to replace speedo sensor (Flatland Racing :prof: )
-Removed radiator resovoir, re routed overflow to same place as existing carb overflow tubes. Also switched to Engine Ice coolant which is biodegradeable and pet friendly. (Normal coolant is poisonous and is a major reason for having resovoir, i.e., so we don't poison the animals when riding in the woods.)

I've done a lot of other mods, pipe, AIS removal etc.

The YZ forks are different but I upgraded the WR suspension using Factory Connection--the best money I've ever spent on a mod. About the only thing left to build out my electric start YZ is cam and gearing. However, I don't expect to make that mod. Oh, I did keep the 18" rear wheel.

The one thing I want to do is put a YZ "like" slider and case protector on the left and right, instead of the big HD aluminum off road type plates--but I haven't figured out a good solution as the WR mounts are different from the YZ--and I'm not a welder!

Almost forgot, but I created a small aluminum bracket to bolt to the original speedo location (on the upper triple clamp). It's a slightly triangular piece. At the "top" (center) of the triangle I mounted a small 1.5" long "stud" that allows the stock (or aftermarket) YZ number plate to be mounted.

Hope this helps!

I have the Factory 4.1 titanium and powerbomb header from fmf, and I love them. Only issues are-- the quiet insert w/spark arrestor didn't stay in because the bolt hole in the muffler must have been slightly stripped, and I couldn't get the bolt to lock dow. I used alot of lock tite, and the quiet insert got spit out, somewhere on the trail. The exhaust system is great and I recommend it, but it's not much quieter with the insert in--which is why I didn't notice when it came out. Any tips on rethreading the bolt hole on the inside of the muffler? What will happen if I use JB weld instead of lock tite? will it melt? :prof:

Great idea! I will take some shots of the mods this weekend. I look forward to seeing others as well.

FMF powercore 4 with a power bomb header!

I was thinking of going this route as my YZ pipe is getting pretty smashed up and my PMB endo is falling apart.... It seems I could get this setup for the same cost pretty much and the muffler looks pretty short???
Have you run it with the quiet insert and SA and been sound tested? I need 96dbs for my offroad races.
Cheers

No I havn't run this with a quite insert, but the SA does not seem to affect the sound level all that much. I did take out the SA in my garage, then put it back in after seeing some muffler packing start to come out. I did have a Q4 and that was 96db, this set up is definately a bit louder. Not Kawasaki loud, but louder
