How does the drive gear come out of the center of the basket?

The OEM drive gear assembly? Read the instructions that come with the basket. The rivets holding the basket to the gear assembly must be drilled off and punched out. They are replaced by the bolts included with the basket, and must be Loc-Tite'd, and torqued according to the instructions, as well as staked in place.

You will have to take it to a machine shop and have it pressed out...unless of course you have your own arbor press. While you're there have them press it into the new one.

That's not the primary gear, that's the starter gear. The primary driven gear is what you called the ring. And yes, you'll have to have someone press that for you if you lack the equipment.

Thanks for the help Wiz. I thought it was pressed on too but thought I'd ask before trying to beat on it.
