Picked up an 07 XR650L and was wondering what are Dave's Mods and what is the stock gearing on these things What gears do you recommend for 80% street 20% fire roads? Any other mods that won't kill my mpg?

Thanks

I'm sorta new here too, but from what I found Dave's Mods are the recommended modifications to the stock carb.

Here's one link I read through...http://www.4strokes....&TOPIC_ID=11416

and another...http://www.thumperta...ad.php?t=617768

G'luck.

Daves mods are just a rejetting/shimming the needle on the stock carb. Makes it run much better! Also remove the snorkel. Put on an after market slip on exhaust, grind the header welds, get a foam air filter.

Stock gearing is 15/45. Pretty tall. I like 15/48, still is good on the highway, but makes offroad 1st gear useable.

Y'all forgot the secret sauce- drilling the slide.

My header welds were perfect, stock- that's a hit-or-miss item.
