I think the wr450 is more made for the off-road crowd but I am looking to get a general purpose bike that can handle some mild motox stuff as well. Would the wr450 fit the bill?

Any WR will handle more than mild MX.
I kind of get a kick out of the anti 4 speed YZ450 posts.
When I ride/race MX on my WR I ride it as a 3 speed. 2nd, 3rd, and 4th only. I've found it to be easier to concentrate on smoothness instead of thinking about what gear I'm in.
These bikes and the new 450 make good usable power all across the full revrange.
I'm looking forward to making my bikes street legal so I can do it all.
What could beat a bike than can be ridden to the track, then raced and ridden home.
