Please Help!!!

Interested in buying a 2008 wr450f, neighbor is moving and wants to get rid of it, tried starting it today and would not start to save my life, i was going to test ride it b4 i bought it, never rode a wr, but anyways kicked it to death bc battery was dead, finally got battery booster and still wouldnt start, tried everything i knew of, has been sittin for a few months, could carb be stopped up?!?!?!??

If it has been sitting, it could be bad gas in the carb. The small amount in the bowl of the carb can go bad before the gas in the tank. I'd try simply draining the carb first - Turn off the fuel petcock, remove the 17 mm drain plug from the bottom of the carb and drain the fuel that's in there. If it's bad you can tell by the smell. Then I'd turn the petcock on for 2 or 3 seconds to let a bit more fuel flush down. Put the plug back in, turn on the petcock, and try starting.

All this is assuming you have compression and spark of course, but this is the most likely problem with a sitting bike, and easy to check. It is possible that the gas in thecarb has turned to "varnish" but I doubt it since it's fairly new.

I have also heard that the WR's will not start (even with the kickstart) if the battery is dead, but you did say you charged the battery. Maybe you flooded the engine kicking with the dead battery. if you suspect the engine is flooded, you can clear it by - 1 - pull out the hot start knob 2 - twist the throttle wide open and do not back off and kick 10 to 15 times, or spin with the starter (I've haven't had that luxury yet). it's important to keep the throttle open the entire time. Don't open and close or you'll be activating the accelerator pump. Now you're ready to set up for standard cold start, so remember to turn off the hot start.

You might also try setting the fuel setting to reserve, just to see. I actually was troubleshooting mine for quite a while before I realized that even though I can hear gas sloshing about, there wasn't any gas getting to the engine. But I am a n00b, so ... ?

correct me if im wrong, but its only been a couple months in 2008. did you neighbor just buy it and put in garage? but as for it not starting, flush the gas. id pull the hose off the petcock, turn it on and let it drain into a lawnmower. filler up with some fresh and try again. I usually do that to the gas in all my motorcycles after winter storage. Screw the lawnmower. gas is too expencive to throw away. did it even try to kick over? Maby check the plug. pull it and ground it, try to e-start it. does the plug spark?

Hey, thanks all, most forums would have probaly called me a dumbass lol, but on the serious side, i would say it is the gas, it has about half a tank and has compression and spark so i will consider pulling the line and draining a bit of gas, like i said the bike is a 2008 and hes moving to the city, already got arrested for being at a gas station (of course not bc of the bike) but other reasons, and he only wants someone to take over the payments and there only $69

Make absolutely sure you can get this bike transferred into your name before it's paid off. If not, it doesn't belong to you no matter how many payments you make. (Especially if the current owner has legal problems.)

You have to drain the gas in the carb. There are 2 ways, the proper way - remove the 17mm plug on the bottom of the carb, or the improper way - lay the bike on it's side and let the gas drain out of the overflow tubes....and then mop it up and wring it into the lawnmower..........

HAHA At least I am a good "bad example" .. I was just about to say the same thing. $69/mo means he got it OTD for less than $8000, but that is just a promotional payment. You need to buy it outright from him, get a regular loan, or maybe do a balance transfer check if you have a good option right now.

yea i had planned on switching it that way anyways, i know the low payments are a scam, but him getting arrested had nuttin to really do with the bike, lets juss say he had some stuff he shouldnt have had

Dont buy that bike.

You can bet he did little to no maintenance on it. thus you have a bike with potential problems down the road.

forget about it and save yoru money. trust me.

if you are going to just take over payments you might as well get a new bike, it would only be the differance in about 3 maybe 4 payments, approx 200 dollars, at least with a new bike you know what you are getting, i guess it all depends on how much the guy put down and how much he still owes on it, i'd do some research on the finances of the bike if i were you, you don't want to end up like christhekid.
