I been reading up on the 426 I just bought and I hear people talking about a starting technique? Can any one tell me what it is. I'm used to 2strokes and I almost broke my knee geting the bike started today. The compression on these things is sick.

The starting technique isn't worth learning. Spend a $100 and get a 450 exhaust cam and then you can kick it like your old smoker. There is a sticky at the top of the YZF page with 40 something pages of info about the swap.

kick till you hit top dead center.
bring the kick start back up
pull the decomp lever
then give it a 1/4 kick
let go of decomp lever and bring the kick start back up
then give it a nice smooth kick.

should start rite up.

also check out the FAQ and go straight to the bottom. you will also see doug dubachs way of doing it.

Watch these videos.
Do yourself a huge favor and put an auto decompression cam in that thing.
Check out the sticky at the top of the YZ forum, there is loads of good info in there.
