RESOLVED: New WR450 and screwed by dealer, I think.

Recommended Posts

THIS HAS BEEN RESOLVED

Dave [of Coyote Motorsports] gave me TWO main options:

1.Cancel the contract, return the bike, pay to have any damage (custom shaped clutch handle) repaired, and be done with the whole thing. I was happy that he would let me do that, as he is obviously not required to do so. The problem is, I want the bike, I really like it, so this option is out.

I have to give a BIG thumbs up to Coyote Motorsports for stepping up with this offer. Whether they are just realizing the power of internet bulletin boards, specifically TT, or they just had a rogue salesman and don't want to do business in an exploitive way, that offer goes above and beyond. You did after all sign the sales agreement. The fact that thier name got a little trashed here and then you didn't make any change in the sales agreement when offered has to be frustrating for them...

I learned that I shouldn't take test rides till I am really ready to buy (financially).

Tommy

Good rule to live by. I personally don't even go into the store to "just look" if I'm not ready to buy. ?

I never test ride any vehicle that I'm not ready to buy out of respect for the dealer. It's unfair to them to put more wear and tear on a vehicle that you have no intention of buying and it's not worth the risk of damaging it and having to pay for the repairs.

Cudos to Coyote Motorsports for being willing to work with the buyer on this deal. (Regardless of their motivation.) I'm sure that the outcome is a little frustrating to more than just the dealer.

Dude should have taken the buyout and just sold the bike back.

If you HAVE to finance something that is considered a toy in such a suicidal manner then you are gonna have a lifetime of financial woes ahead of you.

Sorry to be the turd in the punchbowl but ....this is just foolish to keep a dirtbike on such terms. You could just as easily go get a nicely set up used dirt bike for much much less and not be all screwed up in financing it.

I feel compelled to chime in....

ESPECIALLY in light of the dealership willing to undo the whole deal.

Props to Coyote for reacting positively to what is STILL a bad, bad deal. Maybe the worst deal ever. It's certainly the worst deal I've ever hear of in the 30 years I've been around dirt bikes and racing.

?

{dont give me bad gas, I'm just pointing out some GOOD financial advice, take it or leave it but don't hate me} The kid would be so much better off without this financing of a toy.

I am sorry if I disappointed anyone. There were responses that ranged from somewhat combative to supportive. In the future, I may or may not do the extended warranty and service plan. I suppose it all depends on how I like them on the bike, so far so good. I love the plans on my truck, I stop by every 3k, plop down in their lounge, work, and before I know it my truck is done and I am out of there with zero out of pocket cost.

Another thing I learned is that I should probably *not* have posted the dealers name in the posts. That was borderline inappropriate, and I take responsibility for that.

Also, for what its worth, I still wish I hadn't financed it. I know financing toys is bad news, but taking it away now, after letting me ride it for 3 weeks, would just be cruel. I know I should have saved for it till I could buy it outright. but I didn't, oh well. I really like the bike and I can't wait to get out there and ride this weekend.

It's good that you did. What's the harm? It was a true story and they did work that deal (which was NOT a good deal in any regard) so they need to own up to it as well. Maybe they will learn that that extra $500 they jammed you up on wasn't really worth it for all the bad pub, because a lot of CO riders have read this thread and all those fees we see added to you bill are pure hoooey.

I'm not being negative toward you Tommy. You've approached this whole thing with a really good, positive attitude. :D

I'm just some faceless fool on the internet that is trying to give a young fella good advice.

Finance a mortgage.

Finance a car if you must.

NEVER finance toys. Save money and buy them if you can afford it. Buy used - better yet. Or don't buy, but dont get into debt for toys.

Just advice. Cheers.?

Best advice ever! :D

I've followed this thread from the beginning. I agree with Moto that you should have walked away from the deal. But if you are happy then my opinion means nothing. Enjoy your bike and ride it like you stole it.

If there is one thing I could recommend it is to pay off the loan early. Preferably in the first two years before the interest rate jumps.

I financed my '06 (in '06) for 0% for 1 year, I knew I could pay it off in a year and did ($6,200 OTD), that allowed me to ride for the year it would have taken to save the cash, I think in some cases, financing can be good.

Did the same on my 08.............over 50% of the money sitting in an account waiting for the balance.........not a problem, I still have till Dec 29.......I love the bike and would do it again..............

Lessoned learned. NEXT TIME....ask for out the door price before anything! Forget all the other stuff UNLESS you got money burn'n in your pocket. As most of us do, I walked in on my last bike and said, "I want this bike...what is the lowest price you'll give me out the door?" I had checked around several dealers and picked the cheapest one. $6400 out the door in 05 for my 05. Also, learn to do the work on your bike. That's half...OK...maybe 1/3 the fun! Most experienced guys love to show other guys how to do stuff! Good luck!

I like Tommy's attitude in this whole thing. If more people would be responsible for the contracts they signed, maybe my house would not be worth 30% less than it was last year.

Ah, look at the glass as half-full.

You can buy 30% more toys, since the suckers are liquidating their wasteful purchases at rock bottom prices to attempt to save their homes.?
