07 wr 450 stiffer fork springs

Hey just bought my new 07 wr450 and looking for springs. From what I have heard they are too soft for my 200lbs with out gear weight. Race tech recommends a .47 spring for the front. But I am told they only make a 46 and 48. They say that the 48 will be kind of stiff. I see yamaha makes a optional spring that is .469 has anybody tried these yet??

As far as I know RaceTech and most other companies for that matter get their springs from Eibach. So look around. I know when I got new springs for my YZ I went with MX Tech because they would get the springs that RaceTech didn't offer. If it were me, I would probably go with the stiffer springs if I had to choose.

I have the .48 race tech on my 07', I am 210lbs and I think they are still on the soft side but I am running real light oil right now... It's mostly at race pace that I think the front pretty much sucks in general. Re-spring the rear too :smirk:

Congrats on the bike but I have to inform you that in realizing you need stiffer springs you have just discovered the WR's biggest flaw - The forks in stock form SUCK :)

Ok it was jetted before I even loaded on the trailer. I ordered a skid shield, radiator guards, rear m/c cover and a rear spring before my first ride. Now the optional front spring are on the way. Have you revalved the forks yet??
And was that you who shot the video at frost bite? I did the fb on my drz and sold it five days later.

No that was Rusty Wells that shot the video, I was sweeping all day you probably saw me once or twice, orange coat, back pack.... I run a #plate no headlight...

Tough HS! I could see why the DRZ was sold, that would have been a handful on most parts of that course.

No revalve, I am mostly satisfied with stiffer springs and fluid viscosities... valving is good but I have other $ items right now to work on... :smirk:

All those who tought the fb was hard on there 230 lbs bikes should have rode my 290lb drz, So what weight, brand and heights of oil???? Also are you using a steering dampner and reluse clutch?
If you are which one should I do first??

I'm not so sure you should change them. If you are a woods racer(I'm not), maybe so. But I am 200 lbs. and I just paid to have the stock springs put back in, per my RaceTech mechanics advice. He said that race techs calculator doesn't take into account everything. The heavier springs(bought bike used with .48's) were great for bottoming resistance, but performance suffered elsewhere. The front tire would carome off rocks and hillclimbs became much harder because when I would hit a bump or a rock the front end would dart or wheelie instead of obsorbing the obsticle. You should not make a change without talking to a Race Tech specialist first.

Yeah race tech recommends .47 but they do not make them.. And they then said the .48 will probably be to stiff. Did you try different oil weights etc? Sounds almost like you had too high of a compression setting. Changing springs oils etc....is not a problem. Anything is easier then working on cars all day.

No, I just took it to a certified shim stacker and thats what he said to do. Of course, he re-did the valving to suit me as well. It's much improved.

Well I Was Going Through This A Few Months Ago, I Have An 07 Wr450 I Weigh 240lbs And The Spring Were Wayyyyy Too Soft! After Talkin To Race Tech And Factory Connection, And All The Other Guys, Every Person Told Me To Go With A Diff Spring Rate, I Decided To Go .50 In The Front And 6.0 In The Back..... Well Stock Like I Said Was Wayyyy Too Soft, And This Is Wayyyy Too Stiff!!!!!!! Im Not Sure What To Do, But I Thought This Might Help A Few Of You On Your Decision.
