06 yzf450 fuel milage

I was wondering if anyone knows how far you could go on a tank of gas,using full throttle the entire time. this is a stock bike.

OK, first, nobody believes you can go through a tank of gas on a 450 at full throttle the whole time. There's not that much room in the world. So' I'll guess you mean something like running really hard in the desert or something more like that.

20 MPG is a pretty safe figure, and 25 isn't ridiculous at all, either. Actual mileage may vary (?) as it depends on a lot of things. Another way to look at it is that you can more or less count on running hard for 45 minutes to a full hour on a tank. I ran the Elsinore GP (45 minutes) on a stock gas tank twice quite easily, and I've gone as far as 35 miles running fairly fast in the desert with that.

I have finished a 90 min GP....3-4-5th gear, with less than half a quart to spare. I also ran out of fuel at about 47.7 miles of a 48 mile Qualifier last November.....

Thanks for the reply and yes i wouldnt have the throttle on full time, i was just wondering to make it a little eaisier. i want to enter a desert race that is 100 miles long which i only have to go 50 miles unitl i can fill up again. I wanted to make sure i could even make the 50 miles on a tank of gas.

get the IMS 3.2 gal tank and run the whole race without stopping.

I assume that you are talking about the Stumpjumpers Desert 100 in Odessa. For the most part it is fairly open so if you were to stay in the higher gears and ride mellow you would probably make it around once and be able to refuel. If you are going to be hammering it then you will need to carry some extra fuel with you. Either way I would carry extra fuel...better to have it and not need it than vice-versa.

Last year due to last minute landowner issues each lap was only 44 miles...

i a mtalking about the Odessa race and since this will be my first time in the race i dont want to run out of gas. i will just carry extra gas just in case. Does anyone else know anything that would be helpful going into the race.

You will hit rocks at high speed! Run at least 18psi (20 would be better) in your tires with HD tubes. Go here http://stumpjumpers.org/2008/01/21/2008-desert-100/ and there is lots of info on the race including FAQ's. This is Washington's premier offroad race and people come from all over the states and Canada to race it. For you California guys you might like a bomb run with no dust! There is also an 80 - 100 mile poker run the day before.

40 miles on a tank is a good figure if you're riding hard, although riding hard is all a matter of perspective.

Lol...well it's no Anza-Borrego but it's what we have in eastern Washington. Actually it only looks like that in the spring after the snow melts. This is what it looks like summer and fall. Very arid and temps usually high 80's and 90's.

If you like long rides, I also say go for a big tank if you've got some spare cash. They are a bit wider, but you'll hardly even notice the extra width or fuel weight, it's worth it in my opinion. I've got a Clarke. Some people use a different fuel tap on theirs because the stocker ends up with the tap lever on the inside, and I was gonna do the same, but I think that having the tap lever on the inside makes it less prone to damage or accidental shut-off because it sits quite low.

After all the fall and spring rain, AZ has had, that is exactly what the desert looks like. Its pouring right now... no dust tomorrow.

Yeah, you guys get more rain than we do in a normal year. The other thing is that here there is too little area that gets used by too many people, and the result is some of the most impossibly fine dust you can imagine. This is made worse by the BLM restricting our races to the same tracks over and over.

On the gas tank issue, I like the Clarke 2.8 because it's easiy big enough for the loops I run, but it's not such a huge thing that it's in the way of everything.
