Yet Another Clutch Question

I don't see where anybody has experienced this particular problem. So, I'm thinking either I don't know how to ride, or it's a real dumb question.

My clutch engages fully, without slippage. Disengages just fine too, doesn't jump out from under me when I click it into gear. Lever pull is light.

Problem is, I can't seem to feather the clutch at all. It's either full on or full off.

I've got the darn thing apart right now and I just don't know what's wrong. Plates measure out within spec. As do the springs. There isn't any "obvious" warpage or excessive wear indicated (only eyeballed it didn't actually measure). The two odd friction plates are in the correct location as is the odd metal one. The plate seat and clutch boss spring are still in there too. I think they are even in correctly. Basket and hub show light wear (I can see where the plates hit) but the grooves are so light that I can't really feel them when I rub my fingers over them.

I thought that the actuator was going to be the problem, but it looks like brand dam new.

Has anybody ever heard of anything like this?

An auto clutch is looking pretty darn good at this point.

Thanks.

my best guess is that the springs are marginal and you need the 37 cent fix or new YZ springs.
i think yours are a hair longer than those that it won't disengage and so it is a lightswitch (on or off).

I have the same experience with mine when I use Amzoil synthetic lube. It grabs like crazy with itbut it operates smoothly with Yamalube. I cant do wide open, clutch burning 2nd gear mx starts with the synthetic in it.

First thing to do would be to convert it to a "wet" clutch. Those old CZ dry clutches weren't known for being real compliant anyway were they? We are talking about the CZ aren't we? The one in the photo? :) :D

Mike, I've been using only Yamalube since I got the bike. I'm not sure what the first owner used but I'm guessing Yamalube.

Good one there newmann. Luckily I am talking about the WR not the CZ because the wet clutch conversion is more than I want to spend. Although I do have some money for Charlie as soon as I inventory the broken CZ parts from the last ride. :)
