The old numb hands problem!

I use Fox's gloves and went out to buy a spare set of Thor last night. While trying them on (size XL), I noticed the nice snug fit on the whole hand - almost like my hands were being slightly choked. Went home and kept them on for some break in period - my hands started to feel numb, just like when I'm riding and using my Fox's gloves! The weird thing is when I'm riding, the rest of my arm is fine but my hands are numb like many of you have posted here! :)

Now I'm wondering if using MX gloves with the snug fit is inhibiting my hands' blood flow hence the numbness??

I bought some mechanics gloves, some baseball batting gloves where the palm is protected with leather but the back of the hand is a softer material such as spandex, lycra, or loose leather. Has anyone tried riding with such gloves and how does it work out for you? I'm thinking loose gloves may save me from the "numb hands" syndrome, what do you think of this theory?

Loose gloves are no good either, as it leads to blisters. Did you try on a pair one size larger?

My brother-in-law tried batting gloves, didn't like it, especially when it got wet. Mechanix gloves are alright, I've used them before when it was wet (and maybe will tomorrow).

I've been thinking of trying mountain bike full finger gloves. Thin yet with
some padding on the back side.
I have a pair of Answer SX gloves that are just about worn out. I wear them
all the time. Even tho I have several others in my bag, the SX gloves are
thin, flexable and the best for my hands from not going numb.

overly tight gloves make hand numbness worse, for sure. my numbness is completely cured these days, by:

- ProTaper (Answer version) fat bars
- Answer upper triple clamps (the new ones with lots of lateral adjustments).
- going from 1x to 2x gloves, and going from Thor regular gloves to AC5 (vented line) of gloves.

highly recommended.....

av;

Your numb hands theory is absolutely correct. Tight gloves, especially around the wrist will restrict blood flow to the hands and cause numbness. However, too loose a glove will indeed cause blisters.

You need to find a happy medium with tightness to control the blisters and the type of material to control moisture.

I use Fox gloves that fit properly but I DO NOT wrap the velcro thing around the wrist-end of the glove. If I do wrap it, I get numb hands. Not wrapping the velcro works for me. Try it.
