Thanks for the Photo Bucket Link, but I have to pass. In order to post photos you have to agree to get junk mail from their affiliates. I hate junk mail. I guess everyone will have to go on living without pictures of my Bike.

No registration or any other BS that our company AV software has ever picked up on. Just upload your pic and a box will come up that you can copy the link address directly into your post from. That is where my pic is at.

Take a look at the bottom of the page the link takes you to. A Photobucket company.. I don't know what the big deal is about photobucket. Lots of people use it, I have never been spammed by them, or had ads sent...

Just a simple way to post pictures...

Hello,

A few weeks ago I picked up an 86 xl250r that was in boxes and spread around with a few other bikes parts. After hours of assembly that mostly involved finding parts she fired right up and ran pretty well. I rode the bike for a few weeks to get to know it and figure out what issues it might have and then pulled the top end off a few days ago to find a loosely fitting 78 mm piston in an overbored sleeve etc. No wonder it was blowing oil out of the exhaust.. Now I need a new cylinder it looks like.. Anyway here's a pic:

Nice looking 250, You're going to love that! I think the 250 is the perfect size.
I got an xr100 running that a lady friend had sitting in her yard today. Judging from the shape the plug was in I imagine the head should come off, but after I freed up the chain and cleaned the carb, it ran like a new bike.
It needs rear brake shoes and wheel bearings, and a kick stand. Starts first kick.
I had to free up the cables and tape the controll to the handlebar because the bottom half was missing.
Time to get on the net and find some parts.

85' XL250R here! Nice bike, I really like it! It's pretty much stock but I had chance the other day to do a few airbox mods, seemed to help some.

I have been trying to figure out what to do about my lights. I wired up lights on my 83 XL600R that was striped of all accessories and wired to run when kicked, no switches, instruments, etc.
The rectifier/regulator, and the AC regulator wires don't have 12-14 volts. I can get 20 or 4.5 aprox. Volts. I am assuming this is because I have no battery in the circuit. My lights work on the Yellow/White from the AC regulator @ 4.5 Volts on the DC scale.
Is there a remedy for this, is my rectifier regulator bad, and will it hurt to run without a battery? I have been running it for a few months now and eating bulbs, so I'd like to figure it out.

Does anyone know if a seat from a 1983 xl600 will fit my 82 xl500R?

if you are getting 20 volts out of it there is a good chance the reguator is blownthat or wire must be meant to go to the battery for charging

I would sugest you de-teenage engineer it and find a wiring harness.

things I hate
1. when some punk decides to pick up a can of spay paint, point it at a classic and push the trigger down.

2. When people take chain guards off and side covers and loose them $$$$

3. When someone decides to cut all the wire leads off instead of simply unplugging them and trying up out of the way

I have an 83 XL600R and would most enjoy one that was complete, but between that and the 4500 I am halfway through paying off on my F350 I'm 2 straped to do anything but jump up and down and say I want it. I love my 83 more than any other bike I own or have had. It's a great match for me and a good match for Alaska. I can ride the Highways, backroads and trails, but the seat, rear fender, and tank have to go. I'm building an aluminum tank replacement to extend my range. I can get many hundreds of miles off the nearst road. A battery is just excess unneccesary weight.
Why do people hate what other people do. Seems like a waste of energy.
