I've been riding the same '72 xl250 since about Nov '74. It just keeps on going. I'm not saying I haven't had to work at it but it really doesn't take much. I can keep up with all the newer bikes too.

I have a 1977 xl250 with 4000 miles on it,bought it from an old man a couple weeks ago that never left it outside unless he was riding it!
Tank is spotless inside and the bike is in really good condition, just needs some fresh paint on the tank and side covers, fork seals, stupid muffler gasket and a new seat cover.
Paid 900 bucks for it. Looks like the one posted right above this post but black and yellow and has signal lights and mirrors, will post pics soon.

I have the honor of owning an 81 XL250S since 1991, bought it while stationed in Japan. Seems to be loosing a bunch of oil out of the front sprocket seal though. Has anyone on the site ever replaced one? Looks like I might need to crack the cases to do this. I hope not.

Well, if we are doing pictures, here is my old warhorse in full stealth mode. Clarke tank, aftermarket rear suspension, rejetted carbs, modified airbox, FMF header and a Titanium4 pipe that goes on only when the need for wheelies outweighs my manners.
The ummmm... "artfully" carved side cover is to clear the Ti4 can. Other side is carved to match. But I also have a stock set of side covers and a fresh steel tank. So it can very easily be made to look factory except for the stainless steel header. I will never use the factory anchor with those irritating half circle gaskets again.
The old beast has 25k on the clock and can still scare the pee out of me:

This may be the very first XL model, the XL100. (Other than the name, it's an SL100.)

Ok I'll chime in with my 83 XL600R. All the road gear was gone when I got it a few weeks ago. I fabricated head and tail light brackets for some lights from NAPA, a brake light switch from my old KZ750 twin, scored a kickstand from a junker, and am building a rear seat/ luggage rack. No instruments, battery, or front brake. I'm waiting for a rotor and will adapt old KX500 control. I fabricated a muffler and pipe from Carquest. I'm in love.
