The factory Yamaha YZs in Japan have been running FI for a couple years now...won't be long before we see it in production here. I actually would not be surprised if it first comes out on the WR's since they already have a battery. Since the YZ's don't have a battery they need to run a different kickstart mechanism that is geared higher to generate more energy when kicked over.

Man you gotta give me a link to read about this. I hit the Japanese Yamaha site and they are still showing the FCR on the YZ....:applause:

Yeah looks like EFI but specs call it 4valve and therefore a flicker rather than a thumper in my book...Someone posted Japanese are running YZ's with FI already...wheres the link to that????

Yep the dualsport WR250 is much closer to a TTR than it is a WR. I am rather disappointed that they didn't dualsport a true WR. :applause:

I am waiting patiently for a EFI WR450 to replace my 2004, but those bergs look pretty cool.

They are not in production...I'm referring to the Japanese factory team race bikes only.

Here's an old link http://www.transworldmotocross.com/mx/features/article/0,13190,1176568,00.html

Not even close, that new engine is nothing like TTR. I posted a design overview of that engine that was on the Japan Yamaha site. That engine has some major technology in it. Is it the ground work for the new YZ250f engine?:applause: I have no clue, but you can't even come close to comaring the WR250R to the TTR. They can't even be combined in the same sentence. EFI is coming, we just don't know when.

Well I can't comment on the "major technology", but it would make sense for Yamaha to be making some forward progress. I was mainly referring to the fact that the engine found on the EFI WR250 is NOT like the current WR250 motor.

Super COOOL! Thanks for the link. A picture is worth a thousand words. Cannot wait to ride this and see how it rolls. Only thing that I keep thinking is how much more reliable autos have become (especially japanese etc) since fuel injection got a good understanding. For example, who doesn't get 200,000 out of a honda civic that gets regularly scheduled maintenance? Or now even the small block chevys for that matter. I remember my uncle telling me that I would be lucky to see over 170,000 out of my first truck with a carbureted 350 chevy. Dunno if machine tolerance and lubrication technology plays into that a lot or what but I always thought that carbs dumped enough fuel to maybe double carbon buildup and that makes wieght and friction issues come alive in the fast moving parts. I just can't wait to give a Yamaha hell and let the FI handle the fuel management. Multiport injection and all of that good stuff might be forseeable if they can manage the weight. Man they just keep gettin better.:applause:

I know, the wr250r motor is much more advanced.

Looks more like 250F than TTR250

Sure it "Looks" like a 250f sort of. I was mainly refering to the power of this wr version. It will compare more to a TTR250 than a real WR250. And yes it is by far more advanced than a TTR, but it will be gutless compared to the yz or wr250fs. It's like comparing an xr to a crf, there is no comparison!

I would agree. YZ will go first and the WRs will follow the next year. Yamaha has always been true to that order. EFI will be great, but with a well tuned carb vs EFI, you will not see any more power.

I wouldn't guarrenty that. The YFZ is going to have it for 09 from what I've read. I don't think they would leave it off the WR if they were planning to have it on the YZ. If you look at it from a marketing standpoint, they would either sell the WR's like crazy without it or be recycling them.

I am gonna agree with Ophir. The things that have me leaning that way are historical Yamaha releases (according to TT members) and then there is the camshaft deal. In 2008 the camshafts have changed for the YZ. I know a rider with an 07 and one with an 08. The 08 is weaker...seat of the pants wise..its obvious but you gotta ride it to tell. The guy on the 07 owns the yamaha dealership here. He said that he wasn't sure about why yet when we caught up this past weekend. He said they were gonna try swapping the exhausts and see what that does this week. I did a little digging and the YZ cams have been the same part number for several years until 08 then the part numbers change. There are some other issues that may be involved but my intuition tells me that YAMAHA is setting up the YZ to try FI. The WR, on the other hand, has the same camshaft through '08. I would expect that '09 will bring a new cam then maybe Fuel Injection in '10. I am just shooting in the dark here like everyone else but what the hay.

Fuel injection is just going to make things more expensive. If there were any real advatages in the offroad world it would already have taken over. What happens when you buy a new pipe? Now a $800 exhaust system costs $1100 because you have to get a chip too? Yes, slightly better fuel economy and throttle responce but thats it.

As far as 08 vs 07 YZ's the idea was smooth power. The peak is still just as good and 99% of people will be faster on an 08 than an 07.

Oh, and turbos on a single do work worth a dang.

I dont think we are going to see anything that really changes things unless they change displacement or go to a 24v systen and run electronically actuated valves!

That fuel injection that's on the Suzuki's is not true electronic fuel injection like found on cars either. It still has a choke, and a hot start lever, as well it don't have an 02 sensor to tune it with. It's more like mechanical fuel injection found on the 57 Corvette or early diesles. I don't think it will be any more efficiant this way nor will it tune/adjust itself like FI should do. I hope the yamaha one will have more. I think FI would be nice if it's not like team yellow. IMHO there should never be any more problems with hot starts or cold starts with FI if it's a complete system that tunes itself. And there would be no need for a choke or hot start lever. Come on team blue, bring us the good FI and it will make things better....

are you sure that its not electronic fuel injection? or are you just saying that its an open loop system?

Yes they always come out before any one else to get the jump on mag tests and sales. My bet is that 09 has FI and the WR will get it in 2010.

They changed the frame in the YZ 08 and the motor just a little to make a nice place for FI.

I am hoping to see that. 09 may have some issues if it comes but I don't mind being the lab rat. Went to a boat show this weekend and Yamaha has now put into production a 350 horse V8 EFI outboard. They have been dominating the 4stroke outboard market in my area and EFI is the standard on these dudes so they gotta know what works. Also, one more hunch. That expanded section of the exhaust would make a good spot for an O2 sensor given its location. Its comin soon IMO given emmissions restrictions and Yamaha's strength in numbers.?
