EFI coming Yamaha's way???

Been thinking about a next bike and have read a lot about different makes and models. I have noticed that a couple manufacturers are trying EFI. I know that the Raptor is running EFI so I am thinking that within a year or two WR will follow suit:excuseme: Got a friend who runs a KTM shop and is of course trying to talk me into that bike (which is pretty fly). But he also sells Husaberg. Husa has a new bike comin with EFI and a crazy motor design change that I found info on here at TT. https://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=570768

It's kinda got me peeking around the corner at 'em. If it has lights then I will street it! I am like a 80/20 D-S rider and kinda like the up and coming especially if it means 500+cc's and lightweight. Only thing is I have become a faithful Yama guy during my recent WR lifespan. If they go EFI I am all over it. Just wanted to post and see if anybody knows something that I don't.

I would hazard to guess everyone will have one by next year and it'll be better than this year's yellow, just to stick it to Suzuki.

BTW - What is meant by "not the real wr250"??

According tho Yamaha's website there are 2 wr250's the R and X - both have EFI.....explain please.

because the real wr250 has an "F" on the end of its name. ie wr250f

and it uses a carb and 5 valves.

Exactly! The street versions are completely different and probably compare more to a TTR 250

I recently viewed the WR250 Super Moto or whatever they call it at my dealer. It has got all the same stuff that makes a DRZ an overweight pig. You won't be able to lighten it up very much just like the Suzi. and the WR250 Dual Sport will be far from a dirt bike with a plate. They should call it the Yamaha WRDRZ250.

So whats up with the new up and coming WR450's-EFI or no? Judging by the replies I would have to say that Yamaha is keeping this kinda stuff a big secret. Gonna have to go Husa if the 450 will be like the 250

Thanks, I see what is meant by the comment now, I already knew they weren't nearly as good as the old models, however, in the 250's, it looks like that's all that is now available as a WR, otherwise you'll have to WR a YZ.....

husabergs are cool, but it's just a dirt bike with a flipped over engine. last year they had the counter shaft sprocket on the wrong side, so they flipped the engine over and tilted it. then they changed the writing on the case covers so it would be hard to tell.

all manufacturers will be coming out with FI (well that's the general assumption), so i am sure that the 09 yz 450 will be FI. but the WR is always a year or two behind the YZ, so here's to hoping for EFI on the 09 WR's.

Yeah I am pretty sold on my WR but the Husa is looking promising. My buddy should let me test run the newskies as they roll in. Just a dirt bike though? The FE's already come ready for lights. I have seen the plugs on the 08's as well as the mounts on the subframe. They are actually mounted from the factory at Husaberg but KTM can't sell them in the US with the lights and all or at least there is a strong opposition of some sort due to the fuel tank lining or something DOT related. So what KTM does is pull off the lights and replaces them with billet brake resvoir covers and an arakapovich slip on. Then they sell the lights seperate as an older model light setup or something like that since they are identical. Only thing that I don't like is the rarity of these bikes in the US.

I would agree. YZ will go first and the WRs will follow the next year. Yamaha has always been true to that order. EFI will be great, but with a well tuned carb vs EFI, you will not see any more power.

You might not see more power, but you will have the convenience of riding down at sea level with you buddies one day, and the next day you could be riding in the mountains. Would you rather have a bike that automatically reconfigures to the conditions for maximum power or spend time swapping jets and adjusting needles? I would prefer the former.

That's still yet to be seen. Remember EFI will require a fuel pump. Another part to go bad that we don't have to deal with now. However, it may be a step in the right direction to get a plated WR in the USA if they add an O2 sensor too.

The best thing to happen to outboard boat motors in recent years was 4-stroke EFI. Yami outboards couldn't be more reliable and fuel efficient and purr at high elevation (I run mine at 7500 ft). My experience on the water tells me the EFI WR will be a bullet proof super performer. Go blue.

The factory Yamaha YZs in Japan have been running FI for a couple years now...won't be long before we see it in production here. I actually would not be surprised if it first comes out on the WR's since they already have a battery. Since the YZ's don't have a battery they need to run a different kickstart mechanism that is geared higher to generate more energy when kicked over.
